Keyboard on a Windows 11 computer intermittently failing?

Has anyone recently encountered an issue with the built-in keyboard on a Windows 11 computer intermittently failing? Here’s the specific situation:

While I’m editing text, if I pause typing and then resume, the keyboard suddenly stops responding. However, if I repeatedly press the keys, it starts working again after a few seconds. But once I stop typing again, the keyboard fails once more, and repeated pressing restores it after a few seconds—this cycle keeps repeating. I’m not sure what’s causing this, and it doesn’t seem to have happened before. My system version is "2025 - Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5053598)."

Has anyone else experienced this issue, or can someone help analyze the possible cause?

Hi, welcome.

You’ve mentioned an in-built keyboard/Lenovo. So it’s a laptop not the specified PC/Desktop in your specs?

Please give us the exact model under the laptop. It can help and will probably be asked.

Do you have a corded external keyboard you can try?

I have to run in a bit, but here are a couple of questions that might help other members to help you.

  • Do you have Lenovo Update software, are you able to update or can you check the Lenovo site for any keyboard driver updates
  • Does this happen all the time?
    • Does it by chance only happen when battery power is low or in low power mode?
    • Does it happen when plugged into an outlet?
  • Has it only been happening since the Build/Update KB5053598
    • If so, are you able to remove that update to check?

Thank you for your response. I apologize if my previous explanation was unclear. Below is a detailed description of my issue, hoping to better clarify my situation:

  • Affected Device: I am referring to the keyboard on my laptop, not an external keyboard or virtual keyboard. The laptop model is Lenovo R9000P.
  • Software Update Status: I have not updated any Lenovo-related software, and I couldn’t find any keyboard driver updates on official website.
  • Background of the Issue: This keyboard problem started recently, specifically after I updated to Windows 11 (I am unable to roll back or remove this update). I use the laptop while it’s always plugged in, so there’s no low battery issue, and it has been running in normal mode.
  • Issue Description: The problem occurred suddenly after using the laptop for half a day, but it disappeared after restarting the device. I’m not sure if it will reoccur in the future. And I don't have a corded external keyboard to try.
  • My Question: I’m currently unsure whether this issue is caused by the system (Windows 11), the hardware (the keyboard itself), or the drivers.

I hope you can analyze the possible causes based on this information and provide some suggestions. Thank you!

Hi. I am not really sure how to fix it.

I am also having trouble finding that laptop. Is that all it says underneath?

Is it the Legion 5 Pro-16ACH6H Gamong laptop? (Lenovo Legion Pro 5 Gen 8)?

Legion 5 Pro-16ACH6H Gamong laptop
Pretty much this one, I bought it from China. The Lenovo R9000P in the Chinese market usually corresponds to the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro in the U.S. market, with specific years and configurations needing to align. For example, the 2023 R9000P is equivalent to the Legion 5 Pro Gen 8 (AMD version) in the U.S.

It's simple. If you connect an known good external keyboard (preferably wired but a cordless will do if that's all you have access to) and it works without issue, then the laptop keyboard has gone wonky. The only way to fix it is change out the laptop keyboard.

If you have the same problem using an external keyboard, then look toward the OS.
