If you do buy a replacement battery make sure to get genuine replacement. Otherwise, it will still be more of a fire hazard if you buy those cheap chinese alternatives. This time it is not the hot CPU that will be a "fire hazard" but the battery itself.

They also sell various super glues (cyanoacrylate), and even sell "UnCure" which will soften super glues.
They have various thread lock glues as well.

Did y’all verify that the heat is not just because it’s constantly running on discrete graphics drawing a large amount of power at all times with little room to disseminate it? The battery is what triggers a laptop to switch to integrated graphics when necessary. Unhide all power options and adjust advanced power settings to see if it helps it run cooler.

(I’ll post the powershell commands in a few mins)

EDIT: @antspants - check this for your no battery/overheating issue:

save as .ps1 and run as Admin.

I did the same to fix broken plastic around the hinge of my Dell laptop caused by trapping a pencil between the screen and keyboard when closing the lid! A flexing hinge can also make the GPU cable work loose where it connects with the screen which in my case caused intermittent screen blanking.

Yep. JB Weld is epoxy as well.

Anything you glue with epoxy, is glued for... life. ^^
And... after completely cured... can be drilled, tapped, sanded... etc.


The only "trick" to using epoxy is to mix parts A and B completely.
If you don't... you'll have tacky soft spots in an otherwise rock hard surface.\

I use 5 minute epoxy a lot, but I've used epoxy for years.
If you need more time, try 15 or 30 minute epoxy.

Plan ahead when using epoxy. If you get it in or on places you don't want it... big oops.
Cause that unintended spot will be epoxied for life also. :-)



Side note: Epoxy sticks to... EVERYthing. It doesn't matter what it's made of... epoxy will stick to it.

Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy another used laptop of the same model and take the battery from that 😊. I’ve done that and have three of the same model - two working and one non working which I use for spares - whether that be hinges, battery, casing or charger. If it’s fairly old you should be able to get another one quite cheap on eBay.

Mine is 10th generation but good used ones now go for about £100 ish

It all depends what you're gonna use it for. If you are just attaching a broken vase together, you don't need 5-hour curing time. If you are fixing a boat or a car, then I agree.

That's possible - I usually ask how long the battery lasts before buying and the used ones I've got have had better batteries than my hammered one!

I think you can get a new battery for most laptops for about £50.

Microsoft Defender seems to have as many fanbois as Apple products and has the same religious devotion!

Defender is certainly good, but it is not the best.
