You will not be surprised to hear that my grandson has already shown me that video ;)

He will be competing in the 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 categories. They don't do speedcubing for sizes above 7x7, but he has (and can solve) all sizes up to his latest purchase, a 9x9 one (that takes him a good hour to solve).

Well, on Sunday if the forecasts are to be believed. Heavy rain is forecast for my locality. I'm doubly prepared for this. First, my 2nd rain barrel is plumbed in and ready to collect the bounty from above. Second, I'm going to be far away from here on Sunday watching my grandson compete in his first speedcubing contest. The forecast there is only for light showers :wink:

The most mind-bending one is the 3x3 mirror cube. You solve it like a standard 3x3 Rubic cube, but instead of different colours all sides are silver. The only way to distinguish a piece and its position is by its shape, no two pieces have the same dimensions.

What makes it spectacularly difficult to solve is that when scrambled it looks nothing like a cube and it's near-impossible to tell which piece should go where.
