Good day everyone.

Really nice day here.

Work continues on the fibre build. The guys installed an eight position splitter on one of the pedestals near me and they were suppose to install a twelve. Back today to fix. Amazing they make any money on these contracts. Everything is done twice.

The homes get connected to this switch.

Yesterday the crews through out the neighbourhood managed to take down the power to a significant portion of the hill. With it the Internet crashed. Then on another street the guys replacing the water mains hit the hydro, again. Must just be a jarring moment when that back hoe hits the high voltage. The water guys are ruthless, you should see all the temp phone and cable tv cables hanging in the air as they slice through the underground services.

Afternoon Bree

Afternoon Keith.

Yes with all the gear in the ground it is quite amazing. When the Internet was down yesterday afternoon I drove around the neighbourhood and engage the workers. Especially the cable guys. They laughed when I ask if they knew why the services were down. They have basically been on-call in my neighbourhood for weeks.

I said I guess you bill Bell when their contractors cut your services. Nope. Standing agreement that everyone fixes no charge as sooner or later they will cut Bell's. No wonder cables get cut, just dig, get your job done and let the other guys worry about it.

Hello, Ken, That is the reason my friend uses high-pressure water in congested areas to keep from damaging utilities as the people marking them are not very accurate.

They would have to be a bit more careful here. We have natural gas piped in.
That is the stuff my friend puts in and they use plastic nowadays as it does not corrode he is replacing exesting steel stuff.

I had a steel pipe feeding the gas to my previous house. That had been there since the 1920's and had rusted away in parts, must have been like that for years. The only thing preventing a serious leak was the heavy clay soil it was buried in! As it was on the supply side before my meter it was the gas company's responsibility to repair it (with a plastic pipe).

They did here too when they converted from coal gas in the 60's. The pipes are bright yellow so that they are easy to spot.
