I do all my prep on the Tuesday. Actually that's not quite true I start at bedtime on Monday bringing my old lappy up to date by synchronising my portable apps from a backup over WiFi. The only installed progs are Chrome and FreeFileSync. I leave it running overnight as it can take a couple of hours. First thing on Tuesday morning I do a full image. My main lappy is imaged every day so that's scheduled for the late afternoon.

I've started tidying up the VMs on my Hyper-V host machine: disk cleanup for Windows updates, deleteing some checkpoints, compacting their .vhdx with diskpart. I do that just before each PT's backup, makes the host machine's image many GB smaller. The rest of my machines can wait until nearer PT.
