.204/.205 might refer to the version before and after the update...

It just means you may get updated to either 131.0.6778.204/.205. Who knows how it's determined. I've always got the higher version though.

hmm.. I got the .205 build and I am only on the general release channel and not the extended release builds..
and I also have the canary build installed too: v133.0.6910.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit)

And..., here's another possibility..., again, these are only rapid search guesses!

On Windows, there often appear to be "two versions" of Chrome per update because Google releases a separate installer for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the browser, meaning technically, you have two distinct installations even though they are functionally the same update for their respective architectures; this is unique to Windows, as Mac and Linux only require one version per update.
Key points about this behavior:
Different architectures:
Windows still supports older 32-bit systems, so Google provides separate installers to ensure compatibility across different hardware.
Separate installation files:
When you download a Chrome update on Windows, you are essentially downloading two separate installers, one for the 32-bit version and one for the 64-bit version.
No functional difference:
Although there are two separate installers, the updates themselves will be functionally identical between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Chrome.

This is posted at the top of the page under "click to expand" "The Stable channel has been updated to 131.0.6778.204/.205 for Windows, Mac and 131.0.6778.204 for Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks. A full list of changes in this build is available in the Log.
maybe (just a guess) the 204 is for Linux? anyone have Linux.....
