When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Well it's most likely down to any tweaks you may be using. Mine is straight 'as it comes from MS' win no 3rd-party tweaks or AV.

That's what I was thinking... but I can't imagine what.
A lot of tutorial reg patches... very few mild Winaero tweaks, and TranslucentTB.

SFC is always clean. All Windows updates have worked.

If they’re only tweaks for interface settings, I couldn’t see why they’d stop an upgrade.

For incompatible hardware. This is what I did yesterday.

Downloaded Windows Multi-Install ISO and replaced appraiserres.dll with a modified (empty) appraiserres.dll file in the ISO (using an old version of AnyBurn Pro)
Mounted ISO from my D: drive.
Ran setup.exe

Everything else failed me, including Rufus. However if I burn the "Modified" ISO with Rufus, it would probably work (assumption)

The Windows Pro ISO download has not yet included 23H2 but as @Bree found here, 23H2 will get added/installed during the downloads portion of the in-place upgrade.

Doing this might download some newer system files and turns the version to 23H2, but it also is a huge risk for messing your system and cause the upgrade to fail, even on a compliant system! That's why I always avoid updates during installation and I even disconnect from the internet. Having an unsupported computer is essential to stay disconnected from the internet to prevent any hidden online compatibility check which will make the upgrade fail. I have tried to upgrade 21H2 to 22H2 in four different unsupported computers only to fall in the middle of the first stage before even the first restart. Every single time it will fail. Once I disconnected from the internet it completed the first stage without any hiccups and restarted for the second stage of the upgrade. A second restart later and I had successfully upgraded to 22H2. So I strongly recommend both to disable updates and to stay disconnected from the internet during upgrade, even for a compliant system.

Once I get the official ISO, I'm gonna try updating my incompatible computer.
I used to use the appraiserres.dll trick before Rufus started supporting it. Does Rufus no longer work?

I’m sure Rufus still works. But previous to changing the appraiserres.dll file, I made two different installation sticks with Rufus. One multi install from MS site and one with the media creation tool ISO file, set the required settings and started the install. The install failed both times at around 2% on the blue installation screen.
I then made the ISO with the empty appraiserres.dll and mounted it, it worked first go.
