This laptop crashes 5-15 times a week with no discernable pattern. Has been for years. Sometimes goes long stretches without and then crashes many times in a row.

Full wipe and reinstall windows did not fix.

Hardware diagnostics never find anything.

I cannot find anything obvious in WinDbg/Blue Screen View - though skill level with WinDbg is non existent. I have been assuming it has to be hardware since nothing I do on software side seems to help, but unsure if there is any way to prove it or find out what component. Or maybe I'm just wrong and it really is just a misbehaving driver.

I am reasonably tech savvy but not a tech support expert. Just someone who grew up on DOS, used everything since and works in IT/software dev.

Based upon your descriptions I'd look into heat issues such as will require a tear-down, remove the fan/cooling device and clean then repaste the heat-transfer compound on the CPU. I've used Arctic Silver for years, a glob [no larger that the tube cap] in the center of the CPU and let the pressure of fastening down the cooling device spread it evenly leaving no voids that can trap heat. Also use canned air to clear out any dust.

Thanks for those that replied... Looks like I need to keep running diags and keeping everything current - not sure I'm up for a teardown yet but will consider it.
