Looking for a few options for new system

My system is stating to give me some problems. I already have a case.. ps..dvd.. fans.. I have been intel for as long as i remember back to Tandy.

I want a Ryzen 9 I do not game.. I dont watch movies.. Its all work no play.

I am not sure about the mobo.. I like asus.

I need to be able to use 7 int hard drives plus the Samsung 990 nvme. I want to start adding more NVME when the size gets bigger and eliminate some of the sata 7200 hd. I have two blu dvd roms

Its just so cheap I think I am missing something. I have a Model X99-DELUXE II (SOCKET 2011) right now and want the same or better. I don't want to say.. oh crap I don't have that? I dont overclock cpu or ram and dont play games.. I just want it to boot fast.

I have a Model GeForce GTX 970 right now and it does what I need. I want to be able to use a 4k monitor and I like to have both HDMI and display port. I was told to go with a nvidia rtx 5070 and that looks like its over kill but I don't know anymore. I don't do any crazy.. The 970 treated me great.

Any of you pros have some suggestions.. I want good but so it lasts six plus years. I dont buy a new pc every 18 months anymore.

First, I'm not a pro.

The main issue I see with the TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI is that it has only 4 SATA ports. If I understand your post correctly, you'll need 9. (7 HDDs plus two optical drives.) You could add a card to supply the additional ports, I suppose.

It has 3 M.2 slots. Is that enough?

the high-end ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO also has only 4 SATA ports. I can't speak to the virtues of an X870E chipset versus the B650.

You could add more SATA ports with an add-in PCI-E card. I suppose that you'd have mentioned it if some of the drives are in a RAID array.

The X99 is an old HEDT (high end desktop) system. Quad channel RAM. I suppose that fast DDR5 dual channel RAM might make up for having half the RAM bus width.

If you want a current HEDT replacement, AMD offers the Threadripper 79X0X series that use TRX50 motherboards. You'll find that they are expensive, and there aren't many motherboards to choose from. They may require registered DIMMs. (There is also WRX80, which is even more expensive. 8 channel RAM.)

That is a great catch on the sata ports.... I'm not sure I follow you on the ram. Do I want 4 sticks? I thought two was the way to go.. Things may have changed from the last time. Or I'm just remembering it wrong

I'm not sure why you'd spend so much on the nvidia rtx 5070 for the use you are suggesting. Looks like the GeForce GTX 970 would do fine for your environment. As far as resolution, 4096 x 2160 is the max resolution supported, so the ultra-wide screen monitors would not be compatible. As long as you're not going there, I see no reason not to keep that board. You can always upgrade later if you feel the need.

Looks like your existing GPU could handle it without a problem.

Instead of going crazy looking for something with that many SATA ports, consider an expansion board It's probably easier to find a motherboard with an extra PCIe x 4 slot and use one of these Vantec 5-Port SATA III 6Gbps PCIe x4 Host Card (UGT-ST655) boards.

The GPU is overkill for your application, but you can run a 4K monitor successfully and with some performance with an RTX 3060 or 4060 and save some big money. Since you don't game, you don't need all of the performance of a 5070, or even a 4070. A newer mid range card would be fine for your build.

I would be concerned about the 970 being able to keep up with a 4K monitor, though I am not quite familiar with the specs on that one. If it does work, great, you can always upgrade later if you find the card lacking. I was just thinking newer card for drivers, support of new apps, etc. Since you don't game, that might be moot.

I have an ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) which has 8 sata ports. It is the X570 chip.
It is a solid board and using 32 GB RAM GSkill 3600 MHz and a Geforce 950 video card.
It only has 2 M.2 slots though.
Typical ROG reliability, which ever board you choose the 2 stticks of ram is the way to go.

I don't think for office productivity applications and the like that it'll have any problem. I have an LG Ultragear 5120 x 1440 and an older 1920x1080 monitor. The built-in Intel® 700 GPU on my i5 processor runs them just fine. I added an RTX 4060 board for my 3D processing, but even 3D editing worked fairly well on the Intel® 700 GPU. I'd save the money until I verified I needed the extra graphics boost.

You didn't really specify your budget. These motherboards are a bit high end, but still cheaper than a Crosshair.

It looks like the current offerings of motherboards are slimming down on the SATA ports in favour of M2 connectors, so if you want to have seven SATA drives, you are going to have to buy a SATA expansion board. I have one that I am using with no problems, though it does add a little to the boot time. However, it's an older board and that may be why.

You want 2 DIMMs with an ordinary DDR5 motherboard.

Using 4 may limit the data rate available. (Check the manufacturer's compatible memory list for the motherboard. You may not find any that is certified for 4 DIMMs.)

I don't know whether it could run other resolutions that are compatible with the specs for its ports (HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2, dual link DVI.)

I had an RTX 970. I may have run a 3840 X 2160 monitor at 60Hz with it.

The RTX 5070 may be grossly excessive for a non gamer, who is accustomed to a GTX 970. (Which was a powerful card in its day, which was 10 years ago.)

Maybe an RTX 4060, which sips power (relatively speaking: 115W, compared to the 148W of the 970). Prices have been creeping up, but some are still available in the mid $300US range.

There may be more than competitive AMD cards, but I'm out of touch with them. Or even an Intel card. (Be the only one on your block to own an Intel GPU.

Just a heads up to the OP of this thread. I use the dark theme here at Elevenforum and about 2/3rds of the first post is nearly impossible to read. Not having the same issue anywhere else at these forums.

I own two of them, built right into my Intel processors.

They are surprisingly capable for ordinary desktop tasks. I do have an RTX 4060 GPU for my main computer to give me a little more graphics muscle.

Not sure which GPU you refer to. The 5060 ti and up models are available. (The 5090s are still scarce, and extremely overpriced.) The 5060 (non ti model) is imminent.

Check before you buy whether a 5000 series card is worth the premium over a 4000 one. Not that the availability of those is good. (Is nVidia dedicating their production to AI GPUs?)
