Macrium Reflect moving to lease model.

Arggg - my suspicions are coming true. Reflect is moving to a lease model and at a hefty price too.
You can still but a one-off purchase but it seems you can no longer buy a 4-pack licence.

I used to buy a 4-pack at a major upgrade on Black Friday. It seems that is no longer possible.

At best I will upgrade my 1 standalone licence on main pc from V8 to V9 if they even offer that, but my 4 pack licence on lesser used devices will remain at V8.

Very sad development!

I, too was waiting for this to happen. I have MR Free edition v8.0.7279 installed on both my machines and I was going to 'do the right thing' and pay for 4 licenses but this will now cost £102 for my two devices. That's too much of a price hike and I reckon Macrium have shot themselves in the foot.

Indeed! And if you go the subscription route, then you'll be locked in for life. If you let your subscription lapse you can no longer make backups.

How can Paramount justify such a massive lease.

Do you not get the feeling, the company must be in trouble financially, and this is an attempt to get them solvent?

I've been expecting it too. One would think they would set their initial fee to such that would ease their long-time customers into having to pay every year, but if they are starting out at $47/yr + tax, they will lose many long-time customers. To a lot of you it may not sound like much, but so many not only won't pay it, they can't. I'll bet a dollar to a donut that Macrium will somehow completely remove the offline backup function from recovery media as well.

Yes, but it won't get updated to newer versions so might have security weaknesses in the future.

You're probably correct. The problem is that they are going to be cutting off their nose to spite their face. Increasing prices is going to not only discourage new customers but discourage current customers to upgrade to the next version. It's a great backup program but I have my limit of what I'll pay for it. Not only that but even though I didn't really need the features of the paid version I bought the license just to support them. The only feature I do use is the Image Guardian. Both of my desktops are running Insider Canary builds so I do full backups weekly.

They can't truthfully say that. They have no way of knowing that the program will be able to run on newer versions of Windows unless they are willing to continue updating older versions of Macrium. It has happened in the past.

They said that once you buy it, you own it. I have No intentions of moving to any Newer Releases of Windows . I refuse to rent programs.

To be fair the cost of living in the UK is horrendous now so I suspect Macrium have been forced to up their prices to survive. When version 9 comes out I will be buying 3 licences but spreading the cost over months. I do hope they can continue.

If that were true you would still be using XP or Win7, but I see you are on Win 11.

I think you misunderstood my post. Owning it and being able to run it on newer versions of Windows are not the same.

Most of us have perpetual licences. Why would we move to free version when we have a paid version?

IMHO they've p!ssed on their own chips adopting a subscription base, I for one won't be taking that on.
