That would not be me, but I'll answer anyway just because I have experimented with this in the pastOne of the smart people here will have to advise.
I had a laptop with a small SSD so my backups would not be terribly large. I tested saving backups to OneDrive and splitting files into smaller chunks and it worked just fine for me. Please note that I didn't make extensive use of this. It was in an experimental stage for me.
Ultimately, what I ended up doing was installing a product called "StableBit CloudDrive". Absolutely brilliant. It mounts your cloud storage as if it is just another local drive in your system with its own drive letter. Plus, it can create a redundant copy of the data on OneDrive (or whatever cloud storage provider you use). Now you can perform your backup as if you are simply going to a local drive and it handles all the details in the background. You can even do stuff like set up caching so you don't have to wait for it to copy everything to the cloud. You can shut down your system and the next time you power it up it will finish transferring data to the cloud.
Personally, I prefer local backups, but as you mentioned, this will provide an off site backup for an additional layer of protection.
