making space on memory

hi i use epson printer software for sorting pictures etc ive gone to use it and it coming with message, pc low on memory,make space on the memory capacity in which epson photo+ can be used im lost had a search about cannot find anything any help appreciated

If that's the exact wording of the error, then it's saying your laptop needs more memory to complete the task you're giving it.
A simple reboot may solve the problem. Rebooting will clear much of the memory that's in use.
An additional option maybe to shut down other memory using programs, temporarily.
Browsers, antivirus programs, etc., use a lot of memory.

I will try and clear some programs im always scared in case I close wrong ones. Then computer won't work

As I mentioned above... browsers and Antivirus programs, use a lot of RAM.
I have 16GB of RAM and am running Firefox with only 5 tabs open. I also have Bitdefender AV running.

Also... some older programs, drivers, apps, etc., were programmed differently than they are today.
They can also pop up a "not enough memory" warning, even though there's tons of memory available.

No green dot, they are not ON ElevenForum.

BUT... some folks have email notifications turned on in their settings. So even they aren't ON the forum, they will get an email telling them, someone has quoted or mentioned them.

You don't have to quote everything.

You could just type something like... @Senecio ...see post number so and so.
The post numbers are at the top right of the posts.

You can also right click a post number and choose "copy link"
Then just paste the link somewhere. When someone clicks on that link... they will be taken to your post.

You can look at other things on this forum (like the Quickie forum guide for new members), that I linked above, in post #7.
When Senecio comes on, and responds to your post... it will light up YOUR notification bell.
If you click on the bell you'll see a list of everyone that quoted you, or mentioned you.

Relax, be patient. We're all volunteers, and it is Sunday so a lot of folks are doing family things today.

Hi @oyster2023 - my laptop RAM is: 8.00 GB (7.84 GB usable), it works OK, but is a bit slow. As @Ghot says, you may have some software which is hogging memory.

To find out what memory each application is using you can use task manager: as before, right-click on the windows icon bottom left, and select Task Manager. Then choose processes from the left side. You can sort the memory use column, so the largest ones come at the top, by clicking on the header at the top which says 'memory'. Here's picture of mine from my Dell laptop, for comparison:

You quote him or use the @ symbol in front of his account name, to mention him.
Either method will light up his notification bell.

In answer to your question...
In Task Manager, click on the column heading where it says 73%. That will sort all the items in the column.
It will put all the Processes that use the most memory, at the top.
Clicking again will reverse the list.

Once you have the Processes using the most memory at the top... you will be able to tell what things you need to temporarily turn off, to allow your printer to do what it's trying to do.

I use Pro level software for image management and these type of applications are, by their nature, memory intensive. Also the worst offenders in this is the Free software that is provided with hardware devices. with limited memory you will normally be better served by something simple - Windows itself has functionality built into the file explorer that can manage images or many other file types to a usable level.

One 3rd party application I would suggest for image management is IrfanView which is a free management system for images and as it is an older design is very memory efficient - this should allow you to fully manage your images, and includes basic image processing - often better than those supplied with hardware

Just to combine what Senecio and Ghot have stated, if you look at the screenshot that Senecio provided, you will see that the output is already sorted by the amount of memory used.

You can clearly see that the biggest single user of memory is the Microsoft Edge browser. By stopping Edge, you will get the biggest bang for your buck. In other words, that will free up more memory than any one single other thing.

This view gives you a good insight into what things will make the biggest impact and thus are most likely to help you. Obviously then, if you go to the bottom of the list, those would be the things that are going to make the least impact and are not worthy of wasting time on.

You would want to look for recognizable things like programs that you may have running that you can stop. You don't necessarily want to target system processes or things you don't recognize because you may not know how stopping those will affect things.

Well, I didn't really say what to do next! However, I see you have some other suggestions here.
Something you can try is to stop applications starting when Windows starts up. This is quite safe and reversible if you find it causes you problems.
Once again start Task Manager (right click on the windows icon and choose Task Manager from the list).
This time, click on Start Up apps. There may well be some there which you don't need to be permanently running when using Windows. e.g. Terminal. You can stop it loading when you start Windows by selecting it and clicking on 'disable' at the top. Note that this does NOT uninstall the program. You can still run it in Windows. It just stops it starting up and running all the time in the background (using up memory). It will take a bit longer than usual to start up. You can enable them later if you find a problem.
Here is my startup apps which I have disabled: (you should keep Windows Defender enabled if you don't have another antivirus)

If you do choose to disable one or more programs as above, don't forget to reboot afterwards, in order to see what the effect is on your available memory.
