It said "DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk."

The only partition listed was 0. The only drives connected are the SSD & the USB installation drive.

I did not start the Windows install process as the old Windows is still on the drive as if nothing happened with the disk clean. Should I proceed with Windows install? Thanks.

How big is your drive ssd in your computer? I don't know any drive thats only 57GB.

I missed that you said it should be 2TB

The default config of your computer model is 1TB ssd.

If your machine boots into windows, can you open disk management and take a picture of it?

Do you happen to know if you are using bitlocker?

The Clean All command you ran... wrote zeroes to the USB stick, erasing it.
I'm guessing your USB stick is 64GB?

For some reason, Diskpart can't "see" your 2TB drive.

Yep. @andrew129260 figured it out.

The Disk Management pic (he asked for), and the pic of your Diskpart commands, proves it.

When you typed: "List disk"
...Diskpart only "saw" the 64GB USB stick, (the 57GB is your 64GB USB stick).
So when you selected it, and ran Clean All... it erased the USB stick.

@BIC

Follow this tutorial:

Hold down shift on your keyboard and choose to restart while holding down shift. Then follow the tutorial. Your going to choose to delete/remove everything, and cloud download. Choose the fully clean drive option.

This is going to wipe the internal drive, and reinstall windows from the cloud which should wipe out everything.

Then once done,

Launch windows update, and install all updates, run a windows defender scan and malwarebytes (with rootkit option checked) as secondary. Make sure they are clean again.

Then I would check for an update for your bios for your machine so it can overwrite it with a known good bios version. This can potentially help stop a deep infection with a good overwrite.

Use HP ia to look for updates for your device found here:

When hp ia is downloaded run it and it will open an explorer window showing it. Wait a few seconds and the hp ia window should appear. You should then be able to analyze the system and under the recommendations tab should be the option for all the updates it found. Choose the dropdown and choose all and then extract and install. It should download all the updates and then install them for you.

we can fix that later, for now focus on the other post. You wont need a windows install usb.

Sorry again that happened. Not sure why diskpart only saw the usb.

I made some more edits (done now) to post 31. Make sure to follow them and let me know if you need any help.

Think I'll regroup in the morning. Thanks everybody for the help.

It's probably fine, but Windows may not be able to format it.
A 64GB stick should be 59GB not 57, so there may be some manufacturer software on there that's preventing the format. Don't worry about it right now.

Until the computer is "disinfected", you shouldn't even plug in the USB stick.
Unless you have another computer handy.

Either Minitool Partition Wizard or EaseUS Partition Master should be able to format it.
They're both free.

Is your computer resetting itself ? (tutorial in post #31)

Well, I'm gonna go to bed. It's almost 1am here.
Good luck. :-)

As far as Disk Clean not seeing my SSD, may be due to Windows not having the driver for this Western Digital 2TB SSD. I have to load driver separately during Windows install (that was another nightmare until figuring that out). I changed from OEM Intel 1TB to WD 2TB.

I went with Option #2 in Post #31, reset Windows from inside Windows with Settings. That seems to be working.

Disregard my last. It circled back to the screens in Post #35. My fun meter is starting to peg out.

Started from ground zero. Loaded up the USB drive courtesy of MiniTool Partition Wizard. Went to DiskPart. Again, only recognizes the USB as Disk 0. No sign of the 2TB SSD.

Removed USB and DiskPart still doesn't see SSD.

Can I use a third-party partition app to wipe the drive?
