I am about to go ahead to create the Rescue Media Builder

I am going to use a USb, wihich already has a folder. Is that OK or do I need a virgin USB?

The USB will be overwritten, so you better backup whatever it is in there before you create the Rescue USB.

OK. I understand it is F10 that takes me to the Bios screen for an HP Envy

Now that I decided to sort out the Bios I have a doubt. Do I change the boot order NOW or only when I get difficulties starting, sometime in the future ?

I thought it was going to be easy...

I manged to get half way through F9 but I got this screen. What do I do?

I´m starting to think that I should have restarted with theRescue USD plugged in and that this screen wouold have shown both, I would then select the rescue one and go from there

But all this becomes permanent or is it only done whn I cannot start the PC?

Yes, you must start the computer with the USB plugged to be detected and shown on the boot list.

Thinking ahrad of the eventual cloning, when I get the PC back from Hp with a virgin Eleven installed after the disk is reformatted. will this Rescue USB be of any use?

Yes, if anything happens to Windows you restore again and you will only lose the last data (after the backup), not all your system. You can actually backup once a month (and copy your important data separately to a USB flash drive more frequently), so you will lose the minimum if something happens, not the whole thing.

If you have a spare disk you can restore your backup and see if it works. Don't wait until disaster. I had have bad experiences with USB disks that failed. In Greek we have a saying "Teacher that you taught us but you didn't learn your own lesson" to describe one giving advices he doesn't follow. :rolleyes:

I'm saying you should take a backup and test it is working BEFORE you need it, to be on the safe side. I didn't take a backup myself of an external hard disk containing a lot of data so when it failed I lost 3/4 of it (I had a very old backup). Don't do the same mistake.

Yes, you can simply copy-paste files from your computer to an external USB hard disk. This is if you want to backup specific files and folders only. If you want to do a full backup of your disk (such as an entire partition or the whole disk) you need an application such as Acronis or Macrium Reflect. In any case make sure the backup is updated frequently and it works (not damaged) before you actually need it.
