Microsoft blocks all options to bypass MS Account on new Installs

For Windows 11 PRO etc it's still perfectly possible -- just choose Use Domain login at "is this computer for work or School" OOBE request at the setup stage after initial install. You don't need to have any domain.

This machine is used as a media pc for watching tv shows and movies.

Kodi is installed and used for media.

This windows install is completely stock, not running any start menu or any other type of program to modify windows explorer or start menus. Only uninstalled pre installed apps.
The oobe method is an official MS solution aimed at institutions like laboratories and security companies where pcs must not be connected to the internet. Amost be definition, these could not be enterprise accounts then.

Why not have an enterprise and consumer version? Enterprise could be prohibitively expensive or only available on pirate bay lol

Glasskuter said "Corporate systems will be given special allowances that single users will not have."

Android phones are pretty useless without a google account.

Mine has been very useful for years without a google account. The only issue is my bank had an app that I could side load then use it to deposit checks, but after being bought by another bank now the app wants to connect to the play store to check for updates before it will run. I don't know how to get around that.

It's hard to reconcile a bank insisting an account holder visit the play store before depositing a check.

Other than that I don't know what it is I can't do without a google account. Whatever it is, I evidently don't need it lol

In the end, the vast majority of users will simply use an MS account.

That's what I did when setting up a couple laptops that I didn't care about. Ultimately I had to watch a lot of youtube videos to find the latest method around it, and I can't see many people going to all that trouble. You made a good point there.

I would try to disable Wi-Fi or mobile data and try loading the Bank app again. It will probably warn you there is no internet access, but it might also give up and load. If you are lucky enough and it loads, you can try enabling WiFi or mobile data again and see if you can use it.

Good idea but it didn't work. After I turn off the data it says login is temporarily unavailable, please try again later or call. Only option from there is to close. When I turn data on it warns me that I'm sending info on an unsecure network, then gives me the option to allow once. Then it prompts for an update and takes me to the play store. There seems to be no way around other than modifying the app, which is way above my head, and a TOS violation I'm sure.

It really is odd that a 3rd party is injected into a banking relationship. Bank apps on my pc are updated directly from the bank, as far as I can tell. I certainly don't need to log into anything other than the bank.

PC apps are downloaded directly from the bank site while mobile apps are only available on 3rd party sites. Odd.

I beg to differ, as British say, an Android phone is not completely useless without a Google account. If you only want a few apps and games you can manually download the installers (aka .apk files) and side load them without connecting to a Google account. My mother until recently used her phone without a Google account, until she needed to connect to some Government electronic services and had to create one.
I said pretty useless not completely useless. If you are going to differ in opinion, quote me properly and do not disingenously change my wording.

Well dear boy, do tell us the result!

The result was as I said: no way around having a google account to use the app.

I could create a disposable google account, deposit the check, then delete the account from my phone. That's what I did to install win11 on my laptops, only I don't know how to delete a microsoft account from the OS, but not sure it matters since that account was never really used.

I don't think I would use a sideloaded banking apk that was downloaded from who knows where! :nope:

It took a bit of a leap of faith but I used the app for a couple years uneventfully to deposit checks. Banking is so regulated I don't know how anyone could steal money. ACH requires my name be on the receiving account. A wire requires having my phone to get a text. They don't have zelle or anything like that.

I'm open to becoming aware of additional concerns though.

A banking app located at a third-party site might have been modified to forward your login details to a hacker. The hacker can then use these data to login to your account from the bank's website. Thankfully you are protected by the required code to complete the transaction which is send to you via SMS or Viber, but I would not try my luck...

Thankfully you are protected by the required code to complete the transaction which is send to you via SMS or Viber, but I would not try my luck...

Any time a new device attempts to log into my account a text verification is required and an email is dispatched announcing a new device is logging in. Even if someone could manage to steal an authentication cookie (which would be hard because I always log out) or clone my sim card to steal my phone (which is hard because the phone company asks challenge questions) and then successfully logs in, banking transactions are reversable if fraudulent. I'd notice the email within a few hours.

I certainly understand the trepidation but that site is more of a passthru to download apps from the play store without a google account that 1000s of people use, and their server is likely filled with more apps than they could modify, and my baking apps is applicable to so few people and actually stealing money from a real bank is so hard that it doesn't seem worth the effort. However, I'd never do that with a crypto app. Crypto would be a prime target for shenanigans.

I think that's not going to happen.
Hope you are right.
And the oobe method is an official MS solution to allow to use a local account.
But that doesn't mean they won't shut that down in a jig minute, especially in Windows Home. Think about it.

Most new Windows devices sold in the consumer market have Windows Home. The biggest percentage of the buyers of these devices blindly follow MS on-screen procedure during OOBE which has MS account front and center. They have no idea they can do anything else. Just like they have no idea that their drive is encrypted automatically or that their device is synced to onedrive. Many of these buyers don't even know what device encryption or Onedrive is or how either works. Until all of us baby boomers and a big portion of Gen X pass on, that's just the way it is. Other than gamers, these age of buyers are the norm and the ones still using PCs and laptops while younger folks do their computing on IOS or Android devices. Not everyone is a computer nerd like us.

With every new version of Windows MS sneaks this stuff into OOBE without giving users a clear explanation or choice. At least in earlier versions of Windows, users WERE given a choice during OOBE whether they understood it or not. The very fact they've taken away that choice is clear indication to me that the direction of their long range plans are heading to nothing but MS acounts in the consumer HOME devices. I hope I live long enough to see if my gut feeling is right or wrong.

No kidding. Mom logged into her gmail from my chrome browser 10 years ago which synced all my bookmarks and I think passwords to her account, and I didn't discover it until last year while trying to fix her phone. Neither of us had a clue. What a nuisance syncing is and anything done automatically.

Never let anyone use your pc to check their email! It's impossible to keep up with the herds of software engineers working diligently to "improve" our lives. Eventually we'll have to relent and give up any expectation of privacy for lack of the infinite cognitive energy required to fight them.

Creating your Windows 11 24H2 install media using RUFUS could be a solution for you.
RUFUS isn’t only available as a bypass for OS systems that do not meet the basic requirements of Windows 11, but is also just a general media creation tool.

You will have the option to:
A. Bypass Bitlocker encryption during install
B. Enable the creation of a local user account for the install.

RUFUS. (If you need help, ask)

The best and easiest way - RUFUS should be your friend for all clean install
