Solved Microsoft logon account

So after a blunder of changing my computer to "Reset HP back to factory settings" ...... yeah i know !! Anyway for some reason MS would not recognize my old account so i made a new one to get up & running ! Now i have tried to logon with old account, which MS says i tried to many times & now must wait 24 hrs. to reset my password to my old account. Any way to work around this wait period ??? And what is the best way to log on ???

First thing is to seriously consider a reliable backup system, that way you can quickly go back to a point before the unwanted change. I would also suggest that you always ensure you have a backup before starting any major change, of course we've all done it so it's good experience that teaches us.
The only way I could suggest to speed up the built in delay in Microsoft's system is to call, or otherwise contact them and explain that it was an accident and ask if they can reduce or shorten the delay, depending on who you speak to it can speed things up, though not always .

As for the Best way to log on all I can say is I have a strong password set in Windows hello, and then use a pin to log in day to day. The pin should be six or more characters - I prefer to use a purely numeric pin as then I can use the numeric keypad for speed

I've seen too many posts like yours. I only ever use a local account to sign in to my PCs, just to avoid such issues. Doesn't mean I can't reap the full benefits of my Microsoft account though, just don't want to be tied to using it as the only way to get into my PC....

I use the MS Account but I also setup an additional local administrator account - I can log in to that under all but the most serious SNAFU with the Microsoft Account /System. This allows me to access the "good Features" of the MS Account but still maintain all the local data I need and if there is an issue with the MS account or access to the Web in general.

I've used this system for many years ( two admin accounts) even before the Microsoft account was available, it was standard practice with a lot of system administrators, plus you also these days have the Master (normally Hidden), administrator which has no practical access limits

I thought i had seen a way to stop how many times you could try logging in before MS would stop you from it.

I treat the secondary account [Local], as a purely emergency recovery system, to ensure that I do not lose any local data, I cannot access secure data from Microsoft on my account via onedrive etc but I can work with local Applications & data which will be synchronised back to the remote store when the issues are resolved.

I will admit that the microsoft systems are generally very robust, [these days], and the recovery options have not been used for quite a while, but the fact that they are in place is a reassurance

Nigel,

I'm sorry but the Built-in admin has no more access & is no more powerful than any Admin user account you create yourself. This can be tested fairly easily.

One other thing with regards to Login, The use of a PIN is more secure than direct entry of the password - The pin is stored locally whereas the password is shared with Microsoft to support use across your other devices

Update:: so i finally got into my old MS account but it's still not letting me in with my old account. Every time i reboot it still has my new account name & logs me in with it ! Not sure where to go from here, any ideas ??

SOLVED :: I made a new user account (Chuck Fletcher) then logged in with my newest account, then gave myself Administrator privilege, then signed out of my new account (Charles Fletcher) & when i logged in my old account name (Chuck Fletcher) was there ! So tomorrow i will remove the Charles Fletcher account i had to make when i reset my computer !
