Installing Windows 11 on devices that do not meet minimum system requirements is unsupported and is not recommended by Microsoft.

I don't think MS are sanctioning any of this going by what they say on their support page.

Installing Windows 11 on a device that doesn't meet Windows 11 minimum system requirements isn't recommended. If Windows 11 is installed on ineligible hardware, you should be comfortable assuming the risk of running into compatibility issues.

If you read the actual referenced MS article, it doesn't approve running W11 on unsupported PC's. It's more like "If you got into trouble, here's how to roll back W11 and uninstall it."

When Windows 11 is installed on a device that doesn't meet the minimum system requirements, a watermark is added to the Windows 11 desktop. Notification might also be displayed in Settings to advise that the requirements aren't met.

If a device that doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 experiences issues after upgrading to Windows 11, Microsoft recommends going back to Windows 10.

Nothing new here. The PC World article says: "Microsoft doesn’t explain the actual “upgrading to Windows 11” steps in the document, but we assume it’s done via the Windows Update app and the PC Health Check app". It seems that the author has only just picked up on the MS disclaimer and jumped to the conclusion that MS has recently had a change of heart. That is not the case, that disclaimer has been around since the launch of Windows 11 in October 2021.

The steps to do so are, as they have always been, to use one of the known workarounds. See Brink's tutorial link in post #3.

The only recent change is that, having used a workaround to bypass the hardware checks, the 24H2 install media now displays that disclaimer. Setup for 23H2 or earlier never did.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

It appears that MS intends to begin cracking down on unsupported installations, which they have not done previously.

Same here with an ancient dell 790 tower made in 2012. I used rufus to install it a year ago, and again recently to get to 24H2 I haven't seen any watermarks or other rubbish whining about it either. It seems perfectly normal other than the recent buggy update, but I think everyone got hit with that stinker.
