I persinally think it’s a smart move by Microsoft. They have to generate revenue somehow.
I don’t have to look at the ads, even if I had the standard Start Menu in use I still wouldn’t have to look at the ads, and If I did, they’d hardly affect me. I hold the will to ignore.

People who have stock in MSFT should be happy. I would be but I never bought any *kicks himself*

It’s a standard business model. I’d of gone in the same direction, in fact I’d of done it when Eleven was released.
As I have never personally had to pay for a Microsoft OS due to OEM or gifts received, I’d say I owe Microsoft something considering my PC has been used for business since Windows 95.

It’s a free lunch, I don’t get why people are complaining.

EDIT: If ads start popping up on the screen whilst I am trying to work, then sure, that’s more than a problem.

I have been thinking about the possibility of MS going with pop-up ads. I imagine that if they did it would be for the Home version only. Businesses that use the Pro version would be very upset if their employees were distracted from their work by pop-up ads.

And yes, one would hope it would not effect “Business Editions” which in itself reeks of subscription based Windows.

I think the suggestion was intended to mean,
Enter this into the File explorer address bar
Shell:AppsFolder

File explorer is perfectly happy with that.

is, in my opinion, better. Using a folder of your own allows you to have only those shortcuts that you actually want instead of being inundated with lots that you don't want.

Actually slightly flawed logic here.

By using Windows for work - you might have created income for others who then have invested in Ms Stock or encourged their own businesses to buy Windows / other Ms products. Indirectly loads of people add to Ms's coffers -- It's been one of my better holdings for ages -- and I also trade in the options (the weekly ones known as "weeklys" --not a spelling error !!!) on the Chicago Options exchange.

Many businesses use individual versions of products as "loss leaders" while making a fortune on "Business stuff". A typical everyday example on this are short term car Ferries -- Passengers and cars are carried say between Hull in the UK and Europoort (Rotterdam) or between Lubeck north of Hamburg to Helsinki or even between the Faroe Islands and Iceland -- used a few times --brilliant trip Sail to Iceland and the Faroe Islands with Smyril Line ( as well as freight. The freight makes all the profit -- the passengers etc just add a small extra making use of space that's too small for large freight vehicles etc.

In any case I wouldn't worry too much over Ms's finances -- they've joined the (US) Trillion dollar club.

I get that I don’t necessarily have to feel obligated to Microsoft, Jim. I don’t know if you were witness to my oversharing posts last year about the first chapter of my life, which was ripe with violence, thievery and destruction. I took prisoners and destroyed lives.
So the second chapter in my life was born out of the necessity to not die. I have to give back, I can’t discriminate as to who otherwise there is a kink in my resolve. I just have to. 50% of the work I do now is a for a not for profit. The other 50% I charge handsomely. I can’t say; So microsoft is worth over a trillion, that gives me a pass.
Also a part of the reason I am in here, I go where I can to give what I can afford.

I see what you mean and did a test. That certainly is not what i would want to happen, all apps in alphabetical order. I like the start menu to be organized in (sub)folders to distinguish commands on their general functioning. Like accessoires, photo editing, office programs, system apps etc.

That's how it was organised from the first start menu in Windows (I think it was Windows 95) and that's how I would like to keep it. Whereby it is not very much important if the form is like Windows XP or Windows 7 (just to mention two of the possiblities).

Oh, you want All Tasks (aka 'God Mode') then. Create a shortcut on your desktop to:
%windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
For a nice finishing touch, change its icon to the Control Panel one in C:\System32\shell32.dll. You can then pin this shortcut to Start.
