Solved Motherboard change vs W11 Install

The word 'instanisnlretty' (which I will work into my daily vocabulary more often) was supposed to be 'install is pretty' so the whole sentence was supposed to be 'So my install is pretty new and clean'

Anyhow the rest of he post is full of more of the same and I'm exhausted just correcting one of the lines. For all our sakes, save yourselves and ignore it.

I've decided to do a clean reinstall, as it just seems too much hassle not to.

After I installed the motherboard's USB 3.0 drivers I was able to use a USB keyboard and mouse again.

Don't worry. Just click on the Edit button to correct any typos in your posts. I use it at least once, maybe twice at every post.

It depends. Windows itself installs drivers etc. that matches the hardware components you have. Your motherboard contains the bulk of the PC components but they are limited to architectural changes. By that I mean it's basic components. Back in the earlier days stuff like IRQ, DMA etc. controllers where there from the beginning. Through time all those basic components are integrated into the Chipsets. Things basically does not change that much. Things are getting faster, got integrated more external stuff (WiFi, USB, PCI, PCIe, Sound etc.) How to address those external stuff doesn't change also not that much. New standard make sure is can be addressed the same way like in the past. It only needs software and drivers to tell windows how. Motherboards today must follow those architectural rules otherwise you buy something that doesn't run.

If you have an Intel or AMD platform board and going to a newer Intel or AMD platform board you don't have to reinstall Windows again. At first startup Windows will see some hardware changes and adapt itself accordingly. Old drivers of components that aren't there anymore will be removed and new ones for new hardware will be installed.

It might be an issue if you change from architectural platform itself; From an Intel to an AMD platform and visa versa. How AMD addresses the x86 standard divers from the Intel one. That impact may be a severe one that it is possible that only in that case you have to reinstall Windows again.

I think you made the right choice. I confess that I did a quick plug and pray a few years back with a Win 8.1 OS that lasted two years before data corruption set in. This was from an old Dell PC and it was just tossed in because I was too lazy to do the fresh install. Besides my youngest already had a PC at that time and it was just a spare for when her friends came over so that they could game together. We're talking elementary school ages here. Still, this is proof that it can be done and I never refuted that. I just don't advise it for those who desire serious dependable use of their PC. The matter is entirely a user preference thing.

I need to remember this new word but it looks very technical and complicated. 'Instanisnlretty' kind of describes something I've been fighting with for the past three hours. Alas, it would appear that I have a PSU to return. It installed instantly, it looked pretty, but it was a dud.

Usually the reason you see a BSOD when transferring the disk in a new system (new motherboard or entirely different computer), is the lack of drivers. Windows will try to install drivers for all the new hardware. If it can find the driver built-in, no issues if it cannot (such as unknown disk controller not in the database), you will see a BSOD. This explains why the newer the Windows version the less likely it is to see a BSOD, unless the hardware is very new (no drivers yet in the database) or completely different (from Intel to AMD or vice versa). For comparison, I have seen a BSOD when I moved the disk from the onboard SATA controller to a PCIe to IDE/SATA card. It could not find drivers for the new storage controller. The fact it was the same system apart from the disk controller doesn't make any difference. Imagine going from Intel to AMD or vice versa, especially latest models without drivers in the database. Everything will be different, if you can boot without BSOD, buy a lottery ticket!

lol for a brief moment my cluttered brain saw 'train wreck'. Yup. Need a coffee.

With a smartphone you can type much easier than with the old ABC keys or even T9 of an old mobile phone. I frequently reply from my smartphone, including this post.

I find myself making so many mistakes when I try to post from my phone. I once got a text from a friend of my wife and me. She meant to say that she had a dozen of duck eggs for us. Either she hit the wrong key or was a victim of spell check because it didn't come out as duck eggs.

As being someone with short fat fingers and terrible eyesight, I find it very hard to type on my phone without making a ton of mistakes.

So they say you don't know what you got 'til it's gone. Well, I never owned a brick, cell, or smart phone.
Hard to miss since I never had one. I consider not having a cell a luxury.

If it wasn't for my wife's medical conditions I could do without a cell phone. I do have one vice though. Be it a land line or cell phone, If I don't know the number I won't answer. I'll wait and then check my voice messages.
