I've noticed in regular usage but especially explorer sometimes my mouse cursor will lag for seemingly no reason, and I have task manager up on my monitor most of the time, but when this happens nothing is maxed out and everything seems to be functioning normally. Usually this happens if I'm doing anything with large archives, or file operations. My first thought was, well maybe it's the old HDD slowing something down somehow, but I don't really use it much anymore with my storage being a lot bigger.

I'm thinking that maybe it could be some sort of indexing thing happening, and tried my best to fix it but its got me beat lol. I've had much older hardware and same drives (except the m2) do the same exact stuff in W10 with no issues and same mouse (in My PC with everything else). Everything is up-to-date, temps are fine also, latest drivers/updates, and I even flashed the BIOS with the newest version too.

So any ideas on what I can do? I don't even own a wired mouse any more so don't really have anything to compare it to, haven't had any issues like this with them since Windows 7.
On my old laptop it works fine, so I doubt its a hardware issue with the mouse itself.

Hi, welcome.

It would be reasonable to think that you might mention what the mouse is.
If the mouse uses specific drivers or software (Like a Logitech) then perhaps there is a driver conflict with 24H2, have you tried (if you’re using Mouse Drivers) to roll back to an earlier version?
Have you tried rolling back the Wireless driver for Windows?

Most new wireless drivers for Windows don’t work well for me, so I don’t update past the version that works for my PC. Don’t update what doesn’t need fixing (in my case)

It's in my My Computers thing too, but it a Razer Basilisk V3 Pro in 2.4GHz mode. I might try it in bluetooth mode, but I doubt it will really help anything.

I'll see if I can rollback to the older driver and see if it helps.

Could you have a look at this setting, turn it off just to test?

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects, where you can toggle the "Animation effects" option to turn them on or off; this allows you to control the visual animations within the operating system like when opening menus or switching between windows.

Toggle to off, reboot and see if there is still lag.

Something I read on-line
Do you use Razer synapse? Go into ‘performance’ and try lowering the polling rate from 1000 (which is the default) to a lower setting.

I also read somewhere that using Bluetooth instead has helped some. (Reddit)
How did that go for you?

I will try both of those suggestions, and get back to you. Turns out the firmware for both the dongle and mouse itself had updates. So did that, I thought the Synapse center did that (well it did before, but not when I used their separate firmware utility).

However, literally as I was updating I dug out my old Logitech MX Master 2S, another 2.4ghz mouse, and it also lagged too lol. So I'm starting to think its Windows sided or maybe somewhere down the middle, idk. Will test and report back later if better or worse. Problem is the issue doesn't happen like crazy often, maybe like once every hour or so.

Small Update: So still using 2.4ghz, and I noticed on reboot Windows 11 mentioned indexing was off, why? Who knows. I rebuilt the index, and so far seems like everything is buttery smooth. Will post an update tomorrow or if something else happens, though.

with my mouse when it had lag on Win11 24H2 i found using a USB type A/2, instead of a USB type A/3, for the transmitter stopped the lag. i have no answer why but it worked.

best of luck, Steve ..
