Solved My current desktop !

Hello there !

Here is a screenshot of my current Desktop.
The Windows Orb (on the top, left to the explorer icon is missing - to be fixed)

The small black round on the bottom right of the screen is a folder containing "stuff". In other words, it's pretty much like a "My Documents" folder : it contains apps, code, music, videos, etc.



Any idea on how to improve my Desktop ?

Also, is it feasible to save my current desktop setup (sorry, I don't know how to phrase it differently) so I don't lose it. E.G. : Window's Update, virus etc... I've a 2TB drive where I backed everything up, but it's plain data.

Edit : what orb would you use for for this desktop ? I'm a perfectionist... I'm a software developer, I spend a lot of time on my computer so I like to customize it. I want it cozy and comfy

Most of the orbs I want are watermarked. I'm totally new to Deviant Art.

Also, I'm not really good at "design". Which one(s) would you pick that match my theme ? I'd prefer something like a star, or a zodiac sign maybe ! Something ethereal.

Sorry not yet. I also tried some online jpg to orb converters, but it just won't just convert any file.

I gave a try to your link a couple of times. I registered. Tried alternatively to connect with Facebook, nothing worked, sadly.
Should I try another web browser like Chrome or Edge ? I'm on Firefox and I simply cannot log into the site.

I wonder why it's so hard to make a orb file while it seems to be like a normal image to me.

Just to keep that topic up-to-date, I grabbed a few themes from Deviant Arts where you can full Window's Theme (which includes orbs). Free orbs happen to be quite rare. In other words, if you want an orb from well-known movie(s) / game(s) you can find some.

Maybe I forgot to mention it, but I'm a coder and not really good at graphics... That''s the reason why I struggle that much since a month for a simple orb file

So if anyone can recommend me on an Windows orb, the "requirements" would be as followed :
- Related to Space / Philosophy / whatever would fit the theme.
- Motto is : follow this rule : something meaningful, but not hateful. Something you see that make you dream : a world where there is no war, no discrimination, etc

Maybe I forgot to mention it, but I might be "good" at programming, but sadly, I'm not talented at graphics. At least on computer.
Not to mention that I don't know why Window' Start menu image format is on .orb file, while it seems like a normal jpg or image.

Well, that's off topic. I asked MS why Registry is editable by ANY programs, including users... I'm still waiting for an answer !

To sum up : I'd like a orb that fit my current theme (that you can see in my OP). Theme powered by the great Lively Wallpaper !!!

Just to update my thread. I found an orb I liked, but sadly, it's conflicting with Explorer Patcher (by Valinet-Gabriel Radu).
I got an orb showing a lotus, not great, but not bad either. To able able to use an orb I like, I had to install Open-Shell Menu and both Windows Orbs are overlapping. In other words, Windows display the one from Explorer Patcher first, and when I click on the orb (AKA Window' start button), I'll see both Orbs.
You can't really see it on the screenshot, but there is a small lotus from Open-Shell on the background, and another one on the top from EP


Sadly I "need" some features from Explorer Patcher.

I guess I'll give up until there is a new release of EP, or a Windows 11 update that officially supports dynamic wallpaper.
And yes... I want the taskbar to be on the left side of the screen (very handy when you have tons of applications / folders opened )

I guess it's time for me to open a thread on Windows 11 official forum to suggest the feature !

Or if someone has a similar setup and know about a workaround, please let me know :)

EDIT : if you want to go this far into Windows 11 customization, get Explorer++ handy because Windows Explorer is literately BRO-KEN :)

A little update as I as some time to "work" on my Windows's desktop configuration today. I managed to find an good orb, but unfortunately, it's conflicting with Explorer Patcher.

I guess that's the reason why "dynamic wallpaper" is sadly still not supported by natively Windows.

Doing a backup with @Active on this WiN7Go on my rear USB to Sata 128GB

To everyone reading this thread and love Windows Desktop customization, have you ever give a try to Lively Wallpaper (available for free on Windows' Store).

Really great and free animated wallpaper engine. Sadly, as dynamic wallpaper is still not supported by Windows yet, I do recommend to use Explorer++.
An awesome free and lightweight Windows Explorer. 1 tab opened with both. Windows Explorer is using 90MB+ of RAM while Explorer++ is at.. 7.2MB.

At any rate, you should always have it on your computer as it a great replacement to Window's Explorer - it is totally free and open source. It also is compatible with Explorer Patcher. I'm not trying to promote any free some software. They are great and handy free programs for Windows users who want to experiment feature on Windows 11. Currently, my customization is pushing Window Explorer to its limits and well, if you love customizing your Windows, grab them ! I'm not promoting these "software", it just an advise to people who wanna tweak their Windows !
