My desktop computer suddenly does not recognize any keyboard

Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2
My Dell Optiplex 5060 MT desktop computer running Windows 11 Version 24H2 stopped recognizing my USB wired keyboard yesterday. I swapped the usb wired mouse with the keyboard, and the mouse still worked ok, and the keyboard was still not recognized by the computer. I tried the keyboard hooked up to my laptop, and it worked fine. I tried another keyboard hooked up to my desktop, and it was not recognized. I tried a Bluetooth keyboard, and it was not recognized. I tried a wireless keyboard with a USB dongle plugged in, and that keyboard was not recognized.
I tried Device Manager, checked for drivers, and was told the driver was current, and I did not see an option to go back to a previous driver.
I can access the on-screen keyboard, but using that is as bad as setting up an app on a smart tv.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA

When you say keyboard not recognized, does that mean none of the keyboards you tested with just didn't work or that the computer does not recognize the presence of any keyboard in device manager? Did you check device manager, expand keyboard category. Is any keyboard listed there?

Using the onscreen KB, search for cmd. In the search results open command prompt as administrator.
Type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

Report back.

When I say the computer doesn't recognize the keyboard, I mean nothing happens when I press any key, even though the keyboards have power (they're backlit).
I expanded Keyboards in Device Manager, and there are 7 HID Keyboard Device listings, all with the information. Driver Date 6.21.2006, Driver Version 10.2.26100.1882. All working correctly. I see no indication of if/how many keyboards are attached. At the moment I have two hooked up via usb cables.
I'll run scannow next and report.

I finished sfc scannow, and it found problems.
I also ran your 'dism' etc. and checked both keyboards, no change.
Nothing happens on the monitor's screen when I press any keys on either keyboard.

This may be a poor idea, but I'd remove all the keyboard reference in Device Manager, and let Windows re-install them.

You can do that with the Actionenu in DM, or by restarting.

By the way, I have a single keyboard item in DM.

Sounds like a good idea. I was wondering if seven entries might be causing the problem. Thanks

Well, it was worth a try, but no luck. I uninstalled all seven entries, closed DM and restarted it. This time there were four entries under keyboard in DM. I uninstalled them and restarted. Now there two entries in DM. I unplugged the keyboard , uninstalled the two entries, and restarted yet again. When I checked DM, there were two entries there, and the keyboard did not work.
I appreciate the offers of help, but I need a break.

It can take it's toll, can't it? The only other suggestion I have for you is a repair install. Disconnect and uninstall all keyboards in device manager first.
.Repair install Windows 11 with an inplace upgrade Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade

a little out of the box here. i have read that changing the language settings to a different setting.
ie. English US to English UK then >restarting< the system
may correct this keyboard issue (thats 'if' its a software issue)

this setting is in.
settings > time and language > language and region > options
about 2/3 of the way down this window > keyboards > add key a board

you can change the language settings back to your preferred settings if the keyboard then works.
sorry, im am trying to find the article about this but thus far have failed.

best of luck, Steve ..

Thanks for all the suggestions, but nothing has worked so far. I tried changing languages, but it turned out to be more involved with sub-menus and add'l downloads, so I didn't pursue it. NOW there is a little note in the corner of the taskbar telling me I have ENG US installed which was not therebefore. I also did an in-place re-install repair of Windows 11. That didn't change anything either.
Tomorrow I'm taking the computer to a professional to get to the bottom of things, and I'll report back what he found.
