Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... in-place repair install/upgrade does the trick again. It's my go-to rescue mechanism, and has been since I first learned about it from @Brink 6-7 years ago. It works most of the time. Things must be badly bollixed for this repair to fail.
