Should be an option whereyou can have secureboot and legacy if required by enabling the CSM compatibilty setting for Legacy and UEFI? It's part of UEFI, Not sure how that plays out with Win11, I did an Install on this PC with it enabled and it hasn't caused any issues yet. Worth trying?

I'm looking at a different option, using Rufus to create a Windows to go of the Windows 11 Installer I have from Microsoft onto a 1TB M2 NVME I had around (used it for transfer between my Desktop and Laptop, when I wanted fast speed transfer). I have a ten Gig USB-c on the case and my desktop so should make a usable option rather than the limits of a VM

When I'm using VMs I usually setup two partitions one for the Virtual machine and one for a VHD (Virtual Hard disk which can be attached to more than on VM ) If you do decide to take a look at it as an Option. @Kari is the guy to talk too

Another way would be to get a third computer and use that for Linux and keep work computer for 11.

Well I'm going to call this a win, am posting from a beta version on Windows 11 [from Chrome, edge lasted around 60 seconds to download Chrome),

just need to grab an short extension to connect the Thunderbolt 3 port to the front of the case for easier access

Edit am actually back in Win10 as I had some work to do - never do anything important on a beta system

There has been talk of allowing the Gen 7 Intel processors into the accepted list from the start. There are only minor technical changes between the 7th and 8th Generation and not a lot from the 6th and the 7th so who knows it may change more when all the telemetry collected from the beta release. Is checked

I would wait for full confirmation from Microsoft before changing any plans but it would allow a lot of devices that have been working well on the beta to upgrade

No. I know for a fact that Intel PTT is in the chipset as part of CSME (aka Intel Management Engine) firmware. It must be the same for AMD. Think about it, a processor is an insstruction executing engine iand has microcode for implementing those instructions. By its nature, a processor does not have firmware that has programs like TPM.

You didn't need to buy a module because that board already had FTPM. I know because I have a Z270 board with an i7-7700K installed. The only difference between our boards is mine is a Gigabyte, and yours is an Asus.

I said it once I'll say it again, people are panic buying stuff they don't need. All you need to do in check your owner's manual or the BIOS itself and look for something like PTT (Intel Firmware TPM).

And again, the fact that the board has a slot for a TPM module doesn't mean the board doesn't have TPM, you just have the option to install a discrete module. All my boards supporting FTPM, also have a slot for a discrete module; however it's not required for Windows 11, and as Microsoft has stated, they do not designate which TPM solution you should use, only that TPM needs to be version 2.0.

Additionally, pretty much (like 100%) any board manufactured after 2013 (for sure 2015 on) and having a UEFI BIOS will have FTPM included in the BIOS.

and that's one of the problems some of these users are not doing - reading the mobo user manual and checking to see the available uefi/bios options

I can't speak on other vendors, but every Gigabyte board I've bought (since 2015) have come with PTT (firmware TPM) disabled by default. That once enabled, when you perform a BIOS update (resulting in a return to default settings) you'll find PTT will revert back to disabled again.

Again, that my experience with Gigabyte can't speak on others.

The other "confusing" issue is the fact that many see an empty TPM slot and assume the board does not have F(TPM).

All that said, I'll have to admit that if you don't understand these things, yeah, it'll cause all sorts of confusion and result in many buying stuff they don't need

But yes, check your owners manual, look in the BIOS, and understand that any board manufactured after 2013 (2015 to be safe), probably already has firmware TPM, which is all Microsoft requires for Windows 11 (besides the possible minimum 8th gen processor).

Even my 2012 GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD5 has a TPM header, but getting the modules is very difficult.
My 2013 GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD5H also has a TPM header and Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT).

Most articles about Intel CPUs talk about the TPM being integrated there, even Intels own, and no mention about chipset.
And when you look in Intel ARK at it often says for the CPU: TPM or trusted platform support, SGX (Yes with Intel® ME).

But after I read your comment about it being in the chipset with CSME,I took a look at the whitepaper: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/w...documents/intel-csme-security-white-paper.pdf

On VMWare WKS running on a LINUX Host it is possible provided you either have a physical TPM (quite tricky to start the service though in Linux) or better to use the IBM TPM emulator - install from git-hub. Then VMWare recognises the TPM once you start the service on the Host.

on Windows HOSTS - not sure at all if VMWare can handle a software TPM emulator - depends on what the Virtual BIOS sees.

I think though VM's created with HYPER-V can use emulated TPM's.

When it comes to messing about with hardware - for me then Windows is a bit of a closed book -- with Linux you can get access to most of the source code of pretty well anything and there are always loads of tinkerers out on the web so info while it might be a bit geeky is in the words of the great X-Files series - "the truth is out there"!.
