Adding a shortcut to any of the Group Folders in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX results in the entry not appearing on the WinX Menu. I tried using a few of the programs out there that let you do this to no avail. Manually adding them doesn't work either. I don't use any 3rd party software that might account for this as far as I know. And yes, I rebooted my machine and/or restarted Explorer after adding the shortcut.

Any thoughts on my problem?

Microsoft decided to require a special hash value to be stored in the shortcut files available in the WinX menu. Some guy figured it out and since then that has been added into a number of 3rd party tools. TL-DR you will need to use a 3rd party tool in order to add a new WinX menu item.
