NAS Drives not appearing in Windows 11

Hi

I am having trouble connecting to a NAS drive in Windows 11. Every time I try to map a network drive, I get the following message

Here are the key details:

-I am running Windows 11 Pro on a Dell (see sys info below)
-The NAS drive is an Iomega iConnect (Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station) with 3 x HDDs attached containing files and videos
-I am running the Lenovo EMC Manager software (Download LenovoEMC Storage Manager by Lenovo)

I can access the NAS drives when I am using the VLC app on both my smartphone and Fire tablet but not in Windows.

I have followed the instructions found online to troubleshoot the problem without any success:

Fix 1:

Advanced Sharing settings.
Click on All Networks to expand available options.
Choose Turn on sharing option under the Public folder sharing

Fix 2:

Choose to Turn off password protected sharing option under the Password protected sharing.

Fix 3:

Advanced Sharing settings.
Choose Turn on file and printer sharing under the File and printer sharing if not already selected.

Fix 4:

I turned on the SMB 1.0 sharing ON in Windows Features

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

That should be all you need. In fact, the only thing you need enable in Windows Features is the 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client'. That is all I need to access my SMB1 network drive.

Have you restarted the PC? That is required after adding SMB 1.0 in Window Features.

Your System Requires SMB2 or Higher Error on Windows 10 - MajorGeeks

SMB2 is a new version of the old Windows filesharing protocol SMB and is used for filesharing on modern Windows hosts. If you're getting an error that says

Thanks guys...But it did not work.

I enabled in Windows Features the 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client' only and re-started the PC: no change, still cannot see the NAS drives

What do you mean by "see" the NAS drives?

Your problem may not be that you cannot access the NAS drive using SMB1, just that you cannot find its name on the network in File Explorer.

Have you tried accessing it direct by its IP address? Try typing \\<IP address>\ in the Explorer address bar. Here's how I access my SMB1 network drive, a 2TB USB HDD plugged into my router's USB port. Not only does my router require that I use SMB1 to connect to its shares, but it also doesn't announce itself of the network. This means I can only find its shares by using its IP address.

One of the best programs to use for simple file connections over internet between systems is FILEZILLA (100% free) !!-- download and it should give you access to Network drives whether on Linux or whatever. Same GUI whether Windows or Linux .

E.g FROM windows TO NAS

enter sftp://NAS server ip in the ist box, your user id in the next, password in the 3rd, leave 4th blank (use default port) and hit quick connect. (5th box). Then for future connections just use that drop down in the 5th box. My shots are in icelandic but same GUI boxes in English (with different text of course !!!!!).

"Seeeeeeeeemples" !!!!!!!!

Note of course once connected you can transfer files BOTH ways !! Doesn;t need SAMBA / Cif etc to be active. However if you want to SEND files from Windows TO NAS then you p[robaly will need to install from Windows (install optional features OPENSSH-SERVER) and activate the service. No problem receiving files FROM NAS,

This is only a file transfer program not a server etc but is 100% great for testing connectivity between systems.

Hopefully Bree's post will enable you to access the drives but you can make the NAS visible in File Explorer by creating a network drive pointing to the drive's IP. That's how I do it anyway.

1. Yes I tried entering the device's IP address in explorer. It takes me straight to the web interface

2. On another Dell laptop running Win 11, I can clearly see the NAS drives in explorer view without me typing the IP address so I don't understand why I cannot see the same in this laptop

is the problem laptop running an "Education" version of Windows? i.e. "Windows 11 Education"?

Your web interface screenshot shows a Users tab. Your NAS will only allow access to users you have set up on the NAS. Maybe you have already set up an account on the NAS for the PC that can see the drives, but not done so yet for the one that cannot.

Check that your computer network connection is set to Private Network instead of Public and also make sure you have enabled File & Printer sharing.

I applied the fix per Part2:Fix Network Drive not Appearing in File Explorer - no luck.

There was a 'Method 1: Configure the Network Proxy Settings' on the same page, I could not follow the instructions as it looks it is meant for Windows 10 (> I did not recognise the same interface in Windows 11).

That's not what I asked. The User tab indicates that your NAS can enforce its own security settings, and that the user account of the faulty PC would need to be in the NAS's list of permitted users before it could access it. Have you added it yet?

That rules my theory out - I had the issue with Windows 11 Education not seeing my NAS but enabling Lanman Workstation (resolution) through Group Policy Editor solved it.

Anyway, you say you're not running Education so no need for said solution.

I tried adding myself as a user to the tab, I get a bland browser page with an error message

I'll bet this is at least part of your answer. SMB1 now disabled by default for Windows 11 Home Insiders builds
"If you install a Windows Insider Dev channel build in any variant of Home Edition, the SMB1 client isn't installed."

I am still confused about all this and still nowhere to fix my issue

There is a regedit to fix this... I did it on my laptop win11. I have a Seagate \\goflex_home_atm share that I read in Win 10 machines... now it works on the laptop. DId you find that regedit?
