windows 11 64BIT HOME SINGLE USER
Hello.
My email acc has suddenly just stopped working. I get an error saying not synchronising [not connecting to server] but sending has a green tic against it.
It says Outlook one of two Tasks has completed successfully.
Not really sure where to start and if I would be best advised unstalling365 and loading it in again.
Is there anywhere on here that will give some assistance with this problem as I'm not sure if I should be looking in 365 or email browsers for help.

Thanks

Lots of changes been going on in email lately. It would help if you provide more info.
The domain of your email address (ie @XxXxX)
Do you use webmail or an email application to receive your mail.? What email application? ie Outlook as part of MS office (version of Office?) Thunderbird, other, OR the Outlook (new) that's part of WIndows?

Cheers Steve that seems something very like what has happened to me.
I'll check it out now but I am a bit worried I've messed things up internally when I didn't need to alter anything. If I have is there a reset/default button I can activate for outlook.

Thanks

The main point is Virgin Media is no longer providing Email services.

Therefore you have to use another Email service. It is rather a tedious and disruptive task to change but it has to be done.

That usually means opening Email Accounts like Gmail, Outlook Mail(Microsoft Account) and many other alternatives.

You need to move away from ISP provided Email services as they seem to be closing down in general.

The default position is to use the Webmail Access. You can try removing the Virgin Email account from Outlook, clearing cookies etc, and re-adding but there is no such thing as a reset/default button.

Old Email Accounts do not have modern security features required by Mail clients. Whilst you may get away with using an App Password that is not a long term solution.

I am in a similar position with a different ISP they no longer provide Email services.

@Barnaby44
i would first try deleting the account in outlook, shut outlook down, then re-enter the account as if you were opening a fresh account.
see if the settings work then.

if not then please try Thunderbird email program to see if that fully connects with your account.

here is the Thunderbird help page for a bit of light reading.

best of luck, Steve ..

Thanks again Steve I'll give that a go.
It's looking like I'm going to have to jump ship from Virgin and try another email program maybe Thunderbird like you say. I'm hoping that I can still import my old emails across as that will be a lot to lose.

no not your account just the outlook program.
delete the virgin details within outlook. close 'OUTLOOK' program down.
then re-open the outlook program and re-set the virgin account up as if it was a fresh account.

please dont close any account just the program.
best of luck, Steve ..

A Microsoft Account consists of Outlook Mail and OneDrive online storage. So closing your Microsoft Account will remove your Mail & Content from both. See the MS T & C. for details.

Things like New Outlook/Classic Outlook, Thunderbird, Mail & Calendar App, are Mail Client apps. They are just a convenience/front end to display various Email Accounts in one place with the same interface.
Installing and using these has nothing to do directly with your Email Accounts.

There is much confusion because of MS naming decisions.

My Virgin media email account is alive and healthy.

That is not the point, so does my ISP provided Email still work, but long term the Email account (very old) does not meet modern security standards, and if you change your ISP they will eventually stop providing the service for free.
It maybe alive at the moment, but certainly not healthy.
