Needing help building a budget PC

I bought This computer on eBay (No Harddrive, but I have a spare SSD). I assume it comes with the original MB, RAM & CPU. I would like to upgrade the CPU and RAM at least, but if i can get a better MB, RAM & CPU all for less than $100, then that'd be awesome. Any suggestions? (I'm an AMD Person, so if an AMD MB, RAM and CPU are cheaper, then I'd rather go that route, but i'll stick to Intel if i have to). . Any help would be appreciative.

I'm not a system builder but I've refurbished enough in my time to know you're whistling Dixie if you expect to be able to upgrade 3 of a PC's major components for less than $100 even in in a full size tower, let alone a SFF PC built with proprietary components. You'd probably need to add a new PSU to that list as well if you were able to upgrade all you want. Probably a new WIndows license, too. I suggest if you want a better system that you regroup and look to another solution.

There are many fully Windows 11 compatible PCs on Ebay for less than $200. I've bought 4 Optiplexes for family and friends that have 9th and 10th gen core CPU i5/i7, SSD and 16gb ram for $160 each shipped. Two of them already had Windows 11 installed and activated.

Not much point in a g1. I would suggest hp 800 g4 or g5 if you want to go the oem sff route.

somebody on tenforums got a pretty decent am4 mobo, cpu and ram for £200 recently ( all new parts ) but he already had case, psu and storage.

or you could look for intel 300 series motherboard ( b360 or b365 or z390 ) and an i5 8/9th gen plus a couple of sticks of ram

I dont think you will find any of the above for $100 .

That's an old PC, maybe 2013.

HP doesn't permit me to see the specs on the system. (They want a serial number.)

It uses DDR3 memory. I see a claim that the highest-end CPU you could upgrade to is an I7-4790k. It has the same number of cores as the I5-4590, but it has hyperthreading, so it'll do 8 threads. I'm not sure it'd be worth the upgrade.

Looking at its motherboard, it's at least somewhat proprietary. It lacks the industry standard 24 pin ATX power connector, for one thing. I'm not sure whether it is physically a standard size. (It may be Micro ATX. The mounting holes look like they're in the right spots.)

You may have picked a poor candidate for upgrades. Aside from the proprietary stuff, it probably has a minimal PSU, which would work with a standard mATX board. Besides that, $100 for a MB, CPU, and RAM is low, even if they would fit.

Sorry to be discouraging.

I may just get a 16GB RAM kit and an I7 4770. I can get those 2 on Amazon for $50. I'll have $50 to spare for a PSU. I have an R7 350X GPU on the way.

I'm not trying to build a low end gaming PC. Just a PC to edit photos and videos on, and run my weather radar software and stream with OBS. That's about it.

With those 2 upgrades you probably won't need to upgrade the PSU according to the specs. Yours is the second column.

That's even IF the computer comes with the original Motherboard. . I won't know until I receive it on Thursday.

If your budget is $100, much better deal should be HP 800 G5 (at least G4). none of below over $80 on ebay.

Also, look at your local market, during holiday layoff (bad things), company’s used computers flushing in to local market.
usually much better conditions, but need some luck to find,

The I7-4770 has almost the same power usage as an I5-4590.You wouldn't need a new PSU. But I'm skeptical that it's a worthwhile upgrade. (4 cores/4 threads to 4 cores/8 threads.)

If you got a new PSU, it'd have to work with the proprietary connectors on the mother board. And fit in that SFF case.

I hope that you don't end up spending a lot more than $100 trying to convert that sow's ear into a silk purse.

The value of a 128GB SSD is problematic at this time.

It has been a long time since small SSDs were worth $1 per gigabyte.
