I used to feel that way, but I've changed my mind now. I find it very useful, but not the way MS wants me to use it.

So while I have all my PCs linked to OneDrive, I turn off backing up all of my user folders.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

I wonder if One Drive works just like Google. You turn it "off" but it just keeps on running. Passively, of course... What could possibly go wrong?

    I own too many laptops: A Dell touch screen with Windows 11 and 6 others (not counting the other four laptops I bought for this household.) Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
@Bree - I use Terabyte Image for windows to back things up since it makes an image that can create a bootable drive. Onedrive can not - It stores your info/files so copilot (latest update) can scan them - joy. (of course I disabled copilot very early on). But it is simply part of MS trying to be AI helpful, which it will do increasingly - the AI part is one part of windows OOTB that I do not use. Though I suspect a lot of folks in the world like it and use it. That's cool.

@Scannerman - google does not continue doing it, at least for me - I use it on phone for "SMS Backup and Restore" app and phone backup(makes changing to a new phone mindless) - the only special thing is for photos and you have to go to the photos app on your phone and shut off the sync there. (I have Pixel 7 , 15-current )
