This subject has been covered over and over again.
This is the
PROPER WAY TO GET RID OF ONEDRIVE. Any other method can and does result in a mess. Do this in order.
1. When using a MS account the default location for Documents, Desktop, Pictures, and Videos is Onedrive. You first have to turn off backup folder syncing. This tutorial tells you how and also
how to get your files onto your local drive.
Turn On or Off OneDrive Folder Backup Syncing Across Windows 11 Devices
NOTE: ONLY IF FOLDERS
DO NOT MOVE TO DEFAULT LOCATION IN STEP 1 ABOVE DO THIS
If this happens, then you could try
option three below to restore the default folder location and move your files manually from Onedrive into the folders..
2. Then you have to unlink account & PC from onedrive.

Once you do this the files you have in onedrive will remain there until you login to Onedrive on the Web and delete them.
Sign in - Microsoft OneDrive
3. NOW can then either uninstall Onedrive or disable it. I prefer to disable it. Open Task Manager>Startup Apps
Find Onedrive in the list and, right click on it, select disable. This prevents Onedrive from auto-starting and nagging you..
4A. If you want to uninstall it instead use Revo Uninstaller Freeware Portable. Be sure to delete any leftover files and registry entries Revo finds.

Though
I do not recommend it, you can also uninstall Onedrive manually. Using Revo is much simpler as it finds and gives you the opportunity to remove leftover files and registry entries.
4B. TO MANUALLY UNINSTALL ONEDRIVE
Stop the process. You can simply click on
Exit in OneDrive context menu that comes up when you click the icon in System Tray. You can also go to the Task Manager and right-click on OneDrive Process to “Kill it”.
- Open a command prompt as administrator.Type the following to kill the OneDrive process:
TASKKILL /f /im OneDrive.exe
- To uninstall the OneDrive from Windows 10 or 11, issue the following commands
- type:
%systemroot%\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall
The above command will remove OneDrive from your computer. It will not give you any confirmation though. Note that some folders and files related to the OneDrive.exe process will remain behind after you uninstall it. No changes will happen to the files and folders present in your OneDrive folder.
But if you want to also
remove the residual folders, search for OneDrive in “%UserProfile%, “%LocalAppData% and “%ProgramData% folders and delete them.
To remove the
residual OneDrive registry keys, Run
regedit and delete these two keys, to remove Explorer integration:
