New Outlook app notifications

Greetings,

I've just switched from Windows 11 Mail app to the new Outlook app.

The strange thing is, I do not receive notifications for emails when they arrive if the Outlook window is closed, unlike on the Mail app, that provides notifications all the time.

Why is this?

Ah, right. To receive email notifications you have to launch the New Outlook app and then minimise the window each time you boot your computer. Brilliant. That's way better than the Mail app where you don't have to do that. :eyeroll: Also the ads in the Inbox really enhance the experience.

I had the same problem
What I did is drag and drop the shortcut from all apps into the start folder:
1. open File Explore and give shell:startup in the address bar
2. Go to "all apps" (not pinned as it will not work then) in Start and find the New Outlook icon and drag and drop in the startup folder.

At startup now Outlook will open, but then you can minimize it. This way you won't forget at least, it is a kludge way of having to do it, but it suffices until Microsoft devs get their heads out of their butts.

Ok I uninstalled it again after trying it a second time.
Yes you can set up your Gmail account, but even open it doesn't get any new messages or updates the calendar.
I sent feedback telling them this new product is going the same way everything for windows 11 and all their apps, downhill and pisspoor quality and user experience.
Plus one could just use the PWA and have something that works.

Are you saying you aren't receiving Gmail from your Outlook app?

Edit: Never mind I see you're referring to the new "Windows" Outlook app. I'm using the 365 desktop app and get my Gmail.

Yep I'm talking about the new and improved, eh-hem I mean new and sloppy developed one.
I still have Microsoft 365 and it#s Outlook, but for day to day stuff with no special formatting needed, I really like the Mail and Calendar apps that come with 10 & 11. They are easier to set up, and to select which account you want to use or have shown. Also I am specially happy that leave it the way it is(highly functional for day to day usage) and not fudge it up like they have Window OS or the crappy new weather app even.

I gave it a look for curiosities sake but didn't like it. Much prefer the Office Outlook (currently the 365 desktop app) as I've been using Office with Outlook for 25 years now.

Now why didn't I think of creating a PWA app of it. I've kept the original Outlook app installed as I've set it to default and uninstalled the Original Mail app.

EDIT, the PWA doesn't open correctly after reboot :ffs: No account list. Binned it and will stick with the unfinished app. :zany:
