Hi all
Just daughter and me. I have a Windows 10 machine that I am replacing with Windows 11. I did have an 256gb M2 drive for me and a 256gb SSD for her both with a copy of Windows on and we access the boot menu on start up and choose which drive we want. It seems the best way for her to install what she wanted and vice versa - keeping us at arms length from each other.
However for whatever reason start up seems to get corrupted doing it this way so I'm putting a new pc together with a larger M2 drive, probably 1tb.

I guess now I'll have a bigger drive we can have a profile each on it on the one drive. Do profiles also contain the software installed by the 'other' user. I mean am I going to have Roblox and Spotify icons and all that from her installing on her profile?

And is there a simple way I can set aside drive space so that either of us can't hog all the drive space and the expense of the other?

Yes, you can set up profiles and each user can load separate apps in their own profile.

It depends on the application. Windows Store apps tend to be user-specific; not always, but almost always. So, if you installed Roblox or Spotify from the store, you wouldn't see them on the other user account.

Some applications install in one of the Program Files directories, for example, and are therefore available to anyone. Microsoft 365 Apps (aka Office) is a classic example of this.

Another example is browsers: Firefox and Chrome can both be installed for all users on a system (i.e., in Program Files), or per user (in the user's profile), where they wouldn't be seen by anyone else. Depends on how you choose to install it, in the case of those two specifically.

So like I said initially... it depends.

I'd split a large drive into 3 partitions, main for boot/system, one for first User and one for second User. Many program installs will ask if for all users or logged on user only. Access to each others files could be further limited. Using Microsoft Accounts or Local Accounts can be considered.

Hello @sorethumbs, and welcome. :alien:

In addition, you can also use the DIsk Quota feature in Windows below to set limits on how much drive space can be used by a user account.
