  • Resolved an issue where captures were not refreshing properly in game hubs once the most recent game session was completed.

Yea since this update i cannot use the xbox app wont open i get stucked here and i already tried all possible troubleshoot.. any ideas?why.webp

Mines works fine, but on the bottom the first time I ran it, it said updating on the bottom and went from 0%-100%.

Did you try resetting or uninstall and then installing it again?

Out of ideas for now. They need to have a option to install without restoring the data after uninstalling.

I mentioned the issue of lack of repairability of store apps - such as the Xbox app - in another thread after I had a bluescreen during an update of the Xbox app and then it would just immediately close with an error logged.

There are many fixes for common errors with the Xbox app like the reset option in the app info, or re-installing gaming services, and I even tried the "fix problems using Windows Update" recovery option but they all left the state of the Xbox app exactly as it was before - there's no option to easily remove all data to force a full clean app installation as has been possible with regular programmes for ever and with phone apps.

In the end a new version of the Xbox app appeared in the store and installing this fixed the issue - I don't think the issue was simply a bug in the previous version but perhaps the process of installing a newer app version fixed whatever was causing the Xbox app crash when nothing else did.

That's interesting, did another version of the Xbox app came out after my last response as it seems I am up to date and I don't see a newer Xbox install in the Stores recent update history but installed apps shows it is still v2412.1001.22.0 for the Xbox app.

My issue happened while updating to 2411.1001.5.0 last month and although I tried all fixes and was about to try uninstaller tools hoping to remove all traces, 2411.1001.6.0 was released and updating fixed the issue. Since then newer versions have worked without issue - it seems random when the problem happens.

The latest is 2412.1001.22.0 but new versions tend to be available to insiders enrolled in the PC Gaming preview first so that's one option to get a new version earlier.

@jak22 - I think when I replied. I wasn't paying attention to usernames and didn't realize you were not @Thiefyo who was having problems with the current version after Store updated. I am in Windows Insiders but I don't even have a Xbox and not in the PC Gaming preview either.

I meant Xbox insiders - from the Xbox insider hub app in the store - join and then join PC Gaming and it gives access to new versions of Xbox app, and gaming services and game bar app - having an Xbox console isn't needed.

Although the Xbox app does some useful things you can install games and update them from the store and run them from the start menu.

While waiting for the new version I did try a full re-install of gaming related apps which might fix some issues - by uninstalling the Xbox app and removing the following by using powershell commands

Microsoft.Xbox.TCUI
Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay
Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider
Microsoft.XboxSpeechToTextOverlay

and then using the Microsoft gamingrepairtool gaming services repair tool to re-install these components

i am not in windows insider and still did not found a fix 1 week passed 6 tickets to microsoft and xbox and no fix till now... great support.

There seems to be confusion here

The Windows Xbox app is nothing to do with having an Xbox console - its useful for managing game pass benefits and game installs on PC - if you don't play games then you don't need to worry about the app

Windows insiders is different to Xbox insiders - its Xbox insiders via the hub app that allows joining the 'PC Gaming' preview which gives early access to new versions of the Windows Xbox app and gaming services and game bar apps as well

Installing the next update to the app when its available may help with some issues - assuming you've already tried a 100% uninstall and re-install of all of the components listed before
