Microsoft Windows 11
A two Up-to-date PCs issue: one PC running Microsoft Windows 10 OS and with Microsoft Office 2021 installed, and the second PC running Microsoft Windows 11 OS and with Microsoft Office 2024 installed.
In fact, the second PC mentioned here is also totally installed from the very scratch just 10 days ago because of a brand new Samsung SSD was putted in this PC...

All in all, on this both PCs everything was perfectly fine just before two days ago and with the older installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable - 14.36.32532 and which was installed on this both PCs on 16th March 2025.

However, on 23rd March 2025 on this both PCs was installed the newest Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable - 14.42.34438.0, and from that moment and on this both PCs I was not be able to start Microsoft Office applications any more at all, because it always brings Something went wrong error window and with the error code 0x426-0x0 .

I further discovered that the main problem is that the Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service is all of a sudden not engaged on this both PCs, so I try to run it, but it brings another Error 1053, that it could not start, that the service did not respond to the start of control request in a timely fashion.

I also try to go to Programs and Features to try to (not Uninstall), but to Repair the Microsoft Office on both of this PCs, but on both of them when you press this Repair option here, absolutely nothing is happening, like I did not engage it/press it at all...

I also try all above mentioned, after I restart both of this PCs, and I also run ScanHealth, CheckHealth, RestoreHealth, SFC/SCANNOW, and everything reported just perfectly fine and without any errors whatsoever.

However, I did not yet try to completely Uninstall both Microsoft Offices here, I am even afraid now, that even the regular Uninstall option is also break here..., so dear Microsoft Corp. congratulations on your "beautiful" mess again. :(

I am reporting this here to warn others on caution of this nightmare scenario possibility to happen also on their PCs!!!

And I am reporting this also here, if someone has any other idea whatsoever that I can also try here, before I try just the regular and full Microsoft Office Uninstall option here, and if that option will not react when I press it at all (like the Microsoft Office Repair option did not either), then I do not know..., I will try an unofficial desperate Uninstall procedure then here, the Abbodi1406 - OfficeScrubber v13 (released on 18 September 2024) instead.

Finally, I will update this Forum thread even further, when and how I will finally resolve this problems of this both PCs...

Thanks for any help and suggestions in advance to anybody on this great Forum and best regards to all here! :-)

So, it took me one whole day to figure it all out, and it’s pretty, pretty messy…

I mentioned yesterday here on this forum thread that I hope that the regular Microsoft Office Uninstall procedure will work.

Unfortunately, exactly the same way as Repair option did not function yesterday here, the official Uninstall procedure for Microsoft Office did not function also, so I use the Abbodi1406 - OfficeScrubber v13 (released on 18 September 2024) instead.

I also mentioned yesterday here on this forum thread that my two PCs are actually hit with this serious Microsoft Office applications cannot open error, so I first try last night to repair my Microsoft Windows 10 based PC and with the Microsoft Office 2021 installed on it.

On that particular PC and as a first precautionary measure I create a System Restore point, and then I run the OfficeScrubber (its OfficeScrubber.cmd) as Admin.

The OfficeScrubber then suggest me, that I use only the Scrub Office C2R uninstallation procedure, so I follow, and after he fully Uninstall Microsoft Office 2021, I restart my PC.

Then I download newest available version of Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus Retail and try to install it again on this PC, but the installation procedure instantly stops the moment I run it, and it brings an error on my screen, that the installation cannot proceed, and with this web link available for an additional help by Microsoft: :(

"...Another installation is in progress..." or error code 0-1018, 17003-2031, or 2035-0 when installing Office

I first assume, that the OfficeScrubber probably did not fully Uninstall something from Microsoft Office 2021 all here…, that he possibly left some leftover Microsoft Office files on my SSD, including the Microsoft Office 2021 leftover entries in Windows Registry (regedit), and I also feel sorry in that same time, that I did not listen to myself first, and I did not run the Scrub All uninstallation procedure in the OfficeScrubber, but instead I choose the recommended Scrub Office C2R uninstallation procedure only here…

I follow next, the instructions to manually try to find those mentioned Microsoft Office 2021 leftover files on my SSD and entries in Windows Registry, and after I found and manually delete them, I restart my PC just one more time:

Manually uninstall Office

So, after my PC boots up, I try again to install Microsoft Office 2021 on it, and unfortunately, I hit the same wall again and with exactly the same Microsoft Office 2021 installation error, and the already mentioned and recommended web link for an additional help by Microsoft. :(

I was now pretty nuts and even some desperate, so I then find and open on my SSD, already present three to four OfficeClickToRun.exe.XXX.dmp files, to see if I can understand and discover what it the culprit problem, why I cannot install Microsoft Office 2021 at all, but I did not find anything meaningful to me here, at least some clue or a direction to go further from now…

So, again and as a precautionary measure I create another System Restore point and run the OfficeScrubber just one more time, but this time I insist and choose the Scrub All uninstallation procedure here, disregard that it was not recommended, and it warn me that it will take some longer time to finished it…, and when the OfficeScrubber finally finished this job, I again restart my PC.

When my PC boots up, I try again to install Microsoft Office 2021 on it, and exactly the same persisted installation error was here, damn it. :(:(:(

I even try all this just one more time when I temporary disable my AntiVirus software also, but the same Microsoft Office 2021 Installation error prevail again. :(

I then download newest available Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus Retail, and then even the Microsoft Office 2024 LTSC Professional Plus, but even both of this Microsoft Office versions show exactly the same installation error here… :(

I even test all this when I completely Uninstall the newest available Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable - 14.42.34438.0 (released on: 23rd March 2025), including the later one of the scenarios, when I back install the older Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable - 14.36.32532 (released on: 16th March 2025), but again with now luck to be able to install Microsoft Office, disregard that it is Microsoft Office 2021, 2024, 2024 LTSC, whatsoever… :(

Finally, I was having a last hope hunch, so I run msconfig and enter its Services tab, I further Hide all Microsoft services here, and then Disable all the other services.
Then I restart my PC, and again try to Install Microsoft Office 2021 and I finally hit a BINGO, the Installation procedure works just instantly like a charm!!! :p:love::D

Next question of mine was, what particular service from the exactly 40 of them that I temporarily disable, was a faulty here, so in next 2 hours I again run msconfig dozens of times, to try to pinpoint that exact faulty service here, and I discover it: it is Sandboxie Service (SbieSvc)!!!

I am using Sandboxie software for prox. 18 years already, and in all this time, I did not have such a major problem with it, like this time now.

I do some additional experiments here, especially in Services on this Microsoft Windows 10 based PC, but all in all, I now temporarily set the Sandboxie Service to be run from Automatic to Manual service mode. On this way I have from now a win-win mitigation temporary solution here, because this will run both Sandboxie software and Microsoft Office software still successfully, well, at least till the offical Sandboxie Developer Team will not deploy a new Sandboxie Update here.

I addition, I am also still very sure that initially mentioned and newest available Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable - 14.42.34438.0 breaks Microsoft Office 2021 and 2024, as I all mentioned in my first post yesterday on this forum thread.

But actually, newest available Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable messed up something with the Sandboxie Service itself, and then this Sandboxie service domino breaks Microsoft Office from its own applications starting + its own Uninstallation procedure + its own Installation procedure back.

And I am pretty sure on this, because I did not Update on my PCs anything else for a week (including the Sandboxie software and the Microsoft Office), and all that I update is Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable, and immediately I restart my PCs after, I was unable to run any Microsoft Office applications at all.

At the very end of this long text for which I apologize in advance (but I just want to be most step-by-step detailed and thorough for the others here that can also be hit with this presently serious software bug, including for the official Sandboxie Developer Team that I also today need to warn...), I push all this experiment even a little bit further, to be sure in all that I discovered.

So, on yesterday mentioned on this same forum thread, the second PC of mine and with Microsoft Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 2024 on it, and which also suffer from that same software bug that I simply cannot run any Office applications no more…, on this particular PC I did not at all Uninstall Microsoft Office 2024 today!!!
All I did here on this PC, I just go directly to Services, set Sandboxie Service from Automatic to Manual service mode, restart this PC, and from now on, both Sandboxie software and Microsoft Office 2024 works again like a charm.:love:

Thank you for reading and once more best regards to all!

Thank you for replaying to you both. :-)

Well, it is not surprise that nobody agreed yet with me, because Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable is not usually something that 90% of users will update on their computers for a very long time, or regularly maintains up-to-date on their own after all.
Because this kind of Updates for this particular software part people usually update with some totally other software that they are installing, and when more newer then they presently have, or even newest Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable is just a prerequisite here, so this is the major way how people will get it on their machines, and that goes especially with the grand majority of people, the average users...

I also gives here every possible details how and why I conclude all this, and I also gives an info that it is not the case on just one of mine PC, but two of them and all of a sudden, including the step-by step scenario how to reproduce this errors, and including the temporary fix resolver which I found.

All in all, I am sure that in next few months and if this bug will not be fixed, that those Microsoft Office beauties will not work just for me, that many people will be unfortunately hit with the same errors Worldwide and if they also use Sandboxie software, and that's the reason why I wrote all this in the first place, to make it public.

As for the mentioned newest / latest available Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable, I download it officially and directly from Microsoft.com:

But, thank you for your info!

Finally and in the meantime, I report all this also to official Sandboxie Developer Team.

@garlin
Yes, of course it will as you said, but I also try that well before I try to Uninstall the Microsoft Office 2021 in the first place...
But this does not give me any positive effect here also. :(
And then I try to Uninstall Microsoft Office 2021. ;-)

@Rollback_Jockey
Well, do you have also a Sandboxie Classic v5.70.8 software installed on your PC, or not, because that is the most important thing all here. ;-)

But, to sum up for now to this forum thread, the Sandboxie Team already confirm to me that there has been an issue with Sandboxie software, so now we waiting that they figured out, fix this and then finally deploy a new Update...

Finally, I need to make some tiny correction in my previous post from yesterday here, because I accidentally wrote wrong launching dates of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributables, because that was not the official launching dates of theirs at all - that was the dates when this both mentioned Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable versions was installed on both of mine mentioned PCs in this forum thread, so I apologize to the community. ;-)

I will keep posting here the final resolution of this problemo also, when it will happen.
Till then, once more best regards!
