I am having weird behaviour of windows office pre-viewers with office 2021 and visio 2021 which i recently installed on a desktop pc, replacing the previous 2013/2016 versions which are running out of support.
On a new laptop, these product versions are installed.
the error is always the same "this file cannot be previewed because of an error in the {product} previewer" - {product} is word or visio depending on what type of file it is
Even after opening and saving anew any of the files in question, they cannot be previewed.
BUT on the older windows 10 64 bit HP pavilion laptop with office professional pro 2013 version 15.0.4911.1000 64 bit and visio professional pro 2016 version 16.0.16026.20002, all vsdx and docx files in these folders can be previewed.
Any ideas how to fix this?
On a new laptop, these product versions are installed.
in one shared SAMBA folder, in one of its subfolders VSDX files cannot be previewed but DOCX files can.
In different subfolders of the same samba share, docx files cannot be previewed but vsdx files can.
this happens both on the win10 desktop and the new win11 laptop with office 2021/visio 2021
All files which cannot be previewed can be opened and edited by the corresponding office 2021 program.

- giving everyone full control file permissions, changing trust center settings, using windows 11 or windows 10 - no difference.
- I have run repair on both office and visio but it did not help.
- explorer jams and freezes when a file cannot be previewed
