Solved no internet

Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges and execute bellow commands one at a time:


Restart your computer.

Guys - the OP has said that the internet loss was sudden, and that all USB ports and sound failed at the same time. I do not see this as a purely internet problem, rather that he has a power issue of some sort. Either with the power supply box or something serious has happened to his MB.

Either that or one of the capacitors is faulty.

Hard to check since I accidentally killed my ASUS G74SX-3DE motherboard and the replacement which was the non-3D version but somehow not sure what they did to get the 3D connector on for the display but missing the 3D signaling connector, both the Mini-PCIe slot which is the WiFi and the Ethernet stopped working, I have tried swapping the Mini-PCIe cards with a new one and the system still cannot see it. The question is not where is it located as all you really need to do is to take a photo of the entire motherboard and then post it with the values on badcaps.net and the people there would be able to tell you what are suitable replacements. Remember in the 1990s and 2000s, there were major issues with this and ABIT as a motherboard manufacturer went under because of this. Even my PC Power & Cooling Power Supply had problems and I had to replace all 30 capacitors with the well known Japanese brands (Panasonic, Nichicon, United/Nippon Chemi-con, Rubycon, Sanyo) which made it like new again. Also, it depends if it dried out or if it leaked as the later was the problem with counterfeit caps while the former was more low quality caps.

The correct way to test them requires a multi-meter:

I sometimes find that the Internet disappears, even if everything is correct in the settings, you can try just restarting your computer.

The point of my post was your "generalization" that a capacitor was dead - I merely wanted to know which one you thought it was

thank you all. i took it to my computer club. they changed some bios settings, was able to install a clean windows 11, and it worked. i do not understand what caused this problem, but i learned from this experience. i lost all my programs and settings. but i am back now. thank you pothound

I know but anything is possible. Assuming it's not a BIOS issue, it will be either the PSU or some component on the motherboard which can be anything. You have to remember that the possibilities are endless when something fails and it would be hard to tell you which one it is without knowing exactly which motherboard you are using among other things. So while it may be a generalization, don't question everything as anything is possible and learn to accept that everyone is entitled to their opinions since your post didn't really help the OP in any way but more to try to criticize someone else. Things do fail as even the Intel Pro1000CT that was part of my ASUS P400C800E Deluxe motherboard had problems and replacing the caps did fix it. I have had a HP ProCurve Switch that would lock up that also was the result of capacitors failing. I even had a $12,000 Pioneer Plasma TV died because of bad capacitors which was on a recall service bulletin except I didn't know about it until 2 years after they offered to replace that part of the circuit board for free expired. Remember there are lots of capacitors on any system board so unless I knew exactly how everything is connected on the PCB, I couldn't tell you which one it is as the answer to your original question is you have to use your eyes to look at each capacitor with a visual inspection and then check each one like how any other diagnostic is done since no one else here has access to it. That is something you have to figure out on your own instead of being close minded and question everyone else just because it's not something that you have the same thoughts on. Besides, you also never questioned someone saying it was the PSU.

Sometimes you can tell by looking at them. If you see one that looks bulged, burnt or cracked then it is bad. Unless someone is good at desoldering and soldering they would have to either take it to the shop or replace the motherboard.

Thanks. I know what a bad (budging) capacitor looks like. I had to replace a few in an old TV. Yeah, I tinker with electronics too :)

Anyway, my post was more tongue in cheek, as I never thought it was a capacitor issue. And the OP backed that when he said he took it to a computer club and "they changed some bios settings", and the issue is now resolved.

Yes, anything is possible, but I tend to take a systematic approach to troubleshooting where you start with the simple and progress from there. It also helps to understand how things work in relation to each other. The OP only reported they lost their internet. More likely than not, a bad capacitor would cause other hardware issues as well.

Hopefully in the future my tip will help someone else diagnose a problem they have. I was surprised when pothound posted that the problem was solved by settings in the BIOS. My thought was that it was a power supply problem.

Pothound later posted that they had no internet, no sound and no power to usb ports. That is what made me suspect the problem was with the power supply or worse case, the motherboard. The good thing is that the problem was an easy fix.

I think some of the issues subsequently experienced were also due to messing about in the BIOS. Again, the OP said the club changed some BIOS, and did a clean install of Windows. All good from there.

At any rate, the OP's issue is solved.

It wasn't just losing the internet but they also mentioned USB ports not working so for all we know, it could also be the CMOS battery at the end of life. Every system behaves differently when there are problems, some can be physical and some can be software which would involve the BIOS. It is hard to troubleshoot someone else's system when you don't have physical access to visuals to it. Note that I also am reading the forums fast so I wouldn't be spending time to type everything as my hands at typing than my thinking. It just depends on which order you do things just like in the other thread when Windows 11 was still in testing, I said none of the thumbnails are showing for graphic images and the fix was not obvious as it was changing the scaling. With computers, the possibilities are endless and the approach taken by each person will never be the same as someone can offer one suggestion while someone will come up with something else, you really just have to try everything and even if it really was a capacitor, you still need to do the testing part of it but it was more worth a mention as it's just a possibility, not saying it's a hard fact or anything since remember we only read what the OP posts and aren't physically there to do all the testing. It's just like there are posts here that says their ethernet is not detecting the speed correctly, but you also never see someone telling them to try a different cable that meets the specs to see if the problem still exists as a example. Basically, you really have to try everything and sometimes have to think outside of the box.

That's where the problem is as lots of details were not disclosed. If the OP said they messed with the BIOS and then the problems happened, then it would've been obvious but my response was in response @Winuser's response to the OP originally since with different hardware things failing, it's related to the signal itself.
