"Of all the customers that are using Microsoft Bitlocker, a majority (58%) are large (>1000 employees), 9% are small (<50 employees) and 33% are medium-sized." https://enlyft.com/tech/products/microsoft-bitlocker
We all, me included, need to get back on track here. It doesn't matter if the OP's sister is the ONLY person in the world who uses bitlocker. Our advice for helping her recover is what the OP came here looking for.

Hi Chaps,
The lates message from her is:
"Sorry about the delay. I had done those two steps and the key just isn't being accepted. I can't seem to key in any of the letters though it is accepting the numbers!
Any ideas about next steps? Thanks
There is but I really don't think it will work in recovery. To be honest, I've never tried it. CTRL + Windows key + O (letter o) simultaneously
A cheap usb keyboard is under $10 or maybe she can borrow one..
I don't normally suggest this, but in this situation, that may be the best option.
Apart from the other stated problems, she can't even remember her password.

Thanks, I've suggested that to her, I await the next chapter...
If I was there, I'm sure I could sort it within the hour but being several thousand miles away and different time zones doesn't aid communication.

If you're using a Microsoft Account, and provided you didn't change settings, it be listed there. Log into your Microsoft account online, click on "Devices". Click on "See details" link and click Manage recovery keys. It should be listed there.
If you're not using a Microsoft Account, or the key isn't listed there, then you'll have to remember where you stored it (if you yourself setup BitLocker).
Lastly, if there is more than one key shown, use the "identifier" as shown in glasskuter's image to match the key.
Latest:
"I was using the wrong bit as the key. I don't have the points though to make that work. I have however saved all my files so will give everything another go and then take it from there."
I have no idea how she is getting her files off if things are as she says. If she can do that I'll just tell her to take it into work and have her IT dept do a fresh install. Thoughts?
