Hi everyone,

I no longer have WIFI in Windows, even when I roll back about 2 months when it was definitely working. I have attached screenshots. In device manager what should be there, I cannot remember? I think my MOBO is stuffed. The store that built my PC is not accepting it's a motherboard problem. I am also having stuttering in several apps.

Thanks

Assuming the Wifi adapter is onboard your mobo, have you checked the bios to see if there is any on/off settings you can play with?

There are no WIFI settings in the BIOS. My mobo is screwed. I am going to get in touch with the store again. I hope I don't have to go to consumer affairs.

Hi. That is in the images I linked. There is no WIFI there.
That's the quick settings panel not Device Manager. If there's no Wi-Fi card showing in Device Manager (and not just disabled) and nothing in BIOS then it could well have died.

It is dead. I just emailed the store again.

If they don't play ball I will go to consumer affairs/fair trading.

You could just renew the wifi card, they are not expensive. I have had a couple fail over the years. Just removing it from its socket and re-inserting it will often fix this.

The motherboard is OK or it wouldn't be running as it is.

I have been emailing them for weeks. Up to now they won't accept it's a mobo problem. I have been dealing with this store for 20 years, so it's a bit suprising to me they are acting like this. I have never had problems with them before. I've had it about 2 months.

You could try doing a repair install with Windows update. If that doesn't fix it, it proves there is a hardware propblem

I would think there would be a clue about the WiFi in the BIOS if it's on the motherboard, I know both of my machines with WiFi built-in have options to configure and enable/disable it.

All the Notebooks [and a few Desktops] have the Wireless as a small card set in a socket on the motherboard and either one or two screws holding it in place. I have junked some Notebooks in the past but same the drive, RAM and Wireless adapters from them. I've used the salvaged adapters to upgrade other older Notebooks from 2G only to 2G + 5G speeds.

For diagnosing hardware issues I use a bootable Linux LiveUSB and see what works or what doesn't outside of Windows, tends to narrow down where issues are.

In the OP' case the wi-fi is intergrated, not an AX200 type. As it's two months old the shop should sort it. But OP does not live in UK or USA so it may be harder to get action.

In such a case I'd use a USB Dongle that gives Wireless/Wi-Fi 2G/5G and can include Bluetooth short-range wireless such as an EdiMax, not expensive and bypasses built-in device. I have one on a 17" Notebook with only 2G wireless that couldn't upgrade from Win7 to Win10 but is otherwise a good machine.

I think having to have a dongle to deal with would be a significant PITA in many cases, especially for a laptop. I have a USB<->serial dongle on my desktop, but it's just out of sight and isn't a problem.

Could well be but just as in life there has to be a balance between what we want and how we get it.
