Solved Non manufacturer batteries - are they ok?

If you buy an OEM battery on Amazon and it is not perfect, you can return it with no quibbles.
Unfortunately couldn't find a new OEM battery anywhere. But hopefully the used one from ebay will be ok.

There is virtually no performance difference between an i5 and i7
Except for higher clockspeed, higher turbo, more cache. That are used by certain application, games, 3d modelling.
For just a pc to use word and a bit of browsing, maybe not so much difference. For me i don't ever want to go back lower then an i7.

I'm looking at a used HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G3. He wants £320 for it and it's 10 years old! Been trying to get the price down. Says he'll go down to £250 without the battery and without the ssd (ie I get my own battery and ssd). I asked for a lower price saying I already have an ssd.

I'd quite like one but not sure I want to spend £250 on a 10 year old laptop with a 4th gen processor, when I can get a 10th gen laptop for that price!

But I like the small format. It's Core i7 but I think maximum ram is 8gb.

4gb is onboard so presumably you can't have more than 4gb in the other slot? Don't you have to have matching amounts?
If I were you. I'll just look for refurbished laptops from big box stores if you want to save money. How can you even test that second hand laptop if it is working well without batteries and hard drive? You may end up spending more or waste money on problematic hardware at the end if the day. At least if you buy refurbished, you are still covered under warranty and you can still return it if you are not happy with it. I don't trust anyone (strangers) selling used laptops. If I will buy used/open box, I will get it from the store to protect my investment.

I would just look for some cheap new laptop 400/500,- , with a few years of warrenty. Why buy something from 10years ago?

It's just for occasional use and my main laptop has i5

I declined that offer and got the cheap i5 - which comes with battery and ssd drive.

Good question :-) I just want something small. There arent many. This article shows the options today. I hadn't heard of the 810 Revolve before. My netbook is also 10 years old and nothing wrong with it - except it won't run Windows 11 after 21H2 so I want something similar for the occasions when I used to use the netbook. If not used much it should last a long time.

Thanks. The second one is for the right laptop but this sellers are misleading. "Genuine" doesn't mean it's OEM unfortunately - when you read the rest of the blurb.

To avoid confusion. I didn't get the i7 one at a silly price with no battery or ssd.

I got the Core i5 one for £100 with battery and ssd.

I already tried a dell latitude 11.6" with slow core i5. It was ok but the screen was terrible so sent it back. That was newer but not much point if the screen is faded and unreadable (it had kid proof glass and a cheap display). At least the Revolve has a good screen! I know I'm just tinkering really but want an alternative to the old netbook.

There used to be companies that rebuilt OEM battery packs. I had some of my cordless power tool packs rebuilt & they are still going strong.

And they offered a guarantee!
We use to have a local shop that rebuilt NiCad batteries. He was retired and setup a shop in his garage to keep himself busy. He wouldn't touch Lithium batteries.
