They can simply enter you or anyone into a contract without the other persons consent.

I think that's what Norton Crypto Wallet takes care of. Regardless you would still need to create an account with Coinbase so you could buy or sell your digital tokens.

I haven't used Norton since I was given the program to review for HAL-PC in Houston, Texas, some years ago.

My system was clean as a whistle but Norton "found" several nonexistent viruses, so that was it for me. I wrote my review and gave the program back! It was mine to keep, but I didn't want it . . .

Maybe to buy or sell but not install. Would they be within the law to use the computer to mine, I'm not a lawyer so can't say.

Isn't there enough topics on this subject of which protection is best ? I thought we decided it was up to what ever is best for the user !

The best one to use is the one between your ears :)
Using my brain as an my only AV other than windows defender that i've turned some of off anyway.
Mostly common sense.

I'm not saying Norton would go this far but if they asked for permission to install and run a Cryptocurrency miner while the software was being installed or updated, they couldn't run the program in the background? If the option was there and the user just clicked on Next without opting out, they would be agreeing to the terms to install and run the mining software.

Bottom line, Norton are bundling and installing additional software albeit disabled by default, that has nothing to do with protecting against Malware and Viruses. IMO there should as with most software that bundles stuff with it, an option to decline installing it if not interested. Keeps everyone happy then.

It is what I would call a bundled offer. Actually is not turned on by default, and requires additional steps to be activated so... I don't see the issue here, merely an offering.

Correct. But it still doesn't deter me. It's an optional offering that requires additional steps to be activated. It's not like anyone could accidentally activate it. And for those who are new to the crypto world, this might even be a good start. Getting software from a reliable brand, that you already have installed. Making the process easier.
The only thing that stands out here, is the 15% cut they take. That is, as others pointed out, seems pretty high compared to competitors. How come you're not complaining about that? Now that is .. troublesome

My experience with Norton & some of the other paid Protection would make you roll on the floor with laughter. Being a Malware Removal Specialist for over 20 yrs. i can say that i advise people to spend their money on them if they want but Windows Defender does as good a job along with common sense as the paid ones, in my opinion ! None are fool proof ! So use what God gave you between your ears to think with & you should be alright.

Most of the people moaning don't use Norton.
If you do and don't want mining:
1. Turn off tamper protection
2. Delete NCrypt.exe
3. Turn on tamper protection

Not exactly, although using the old noodle adds a lot to your security.

The fact is that there are "drive by" things that can do you in no matter how smart your security is. That's why I leave Windows Defender intact.
