When you revert back, do it through Windows, Kevin.

When it’s time, click “Manage my Microsoft account” under where it says Zen in the above image.

So does this "your Info" dialogue have nothgin to do with the account with which I sign into my laptop which is a local account?

Of course. I always post back outcomes so that if anyoen else ever wades through all of this then something somewhere in it all might help them. I have reported one of my posts on this thread to get an image removed. I stupidly left my name visible. Is that the best way to do that? I also sent a message using the 'contact us' link in footer..

To be honest I didn’t notice, I just assumed Kevvy would be Kevin.

UPDATE AND FINAL RESOLUTION

This initially appeared to be about having changed the primary alias on my MS account. This made no sense as MS clearly states that this should not cause any negative consequences and that any alias can be used to log into a MS account, as one would expect.

When I did some more digging on the 'error code 29' I found a few threads with people having issues with activation new installs of MS 365. Mine was slightly different in that I had manually logged out of an activated installation which revealed an activation bug introduced by MS in March 2024 and not yet fixed.

For me this bug triggered the requirement to sign into every office app at every launch. This eventualy morphed into a 'deactivated/unlicencend' state for MS 365 that logging back into MS account did not resolve (the bug).

I found a few threads where MS were giving workarounds that required scripts to be run which worked for some but not for me, maybe because this was not a clean install?

Someone there suggested a simple fix which worked for me and many others as well. This just involves deleting some hidden files and a folder.

Look at posts 1 and 2 in this thread. 2 is the simple fix that worked for me.
