Office apps crashing on closing

When I close an Office app such as Word, Excel or Access, I'm getting a 'stopped working' error
I noticed it today both before and after installing the latest Beta update

I uninstalled, re-installed the Stable version - works fine
As soon as I updated to Beta again the problem returned

If I right click on the app in the taskbar and click 'End task' or end it from Task manager I don't get the error - it's only if I click the 'X'

Happening on another PC here, same Office version

Can you tell me what version you are running? I can't tell anything from your attachments.

I am running version 2025, build 18812 .20002 (click to run) Signed up for the beta channel.

I don't seem to have any problems with the latest installation as shown above.

I just did a task using Microsoft Word from the beta channel Creating a file, saving the file, then closing word. Everything worked normally as it should have.

Beta versions will always be problematic.

Nah, I've been running the beta version and updating or being updated regularly. Thus far, I have not had any problems with it. I use Windows 365 as my everyday go to.

Well I tried to sign out of Office, then sign back in. Guess what? Java script is disabled so can't sign in!

Luckily I had a Macrium image backup taken before I tried re-installing Office

You mean Office 365? Which subscription do you use, I'm on Family Classic.
The other pc is using one of my six share accounts and is also crashing the same

I've never made any changes to the java settings.
As I said I can use the M365 apps but they crash if I close any of them
The Java issue only occurs if I try to log back into Office after logging out of my account

Closing the Office apps using task manager doesn't cause a crash error

Sorry, got Windows and Microsoft mixed up.

I am running Microsoft 365, Beta Channel, version 2025, build 18812 .20002 (click to run) as an Insider.

I believe there's a current version 2024, build 18812 .20002 (click to run).

If you are running the one in the beta channel, it might help if you uninstall that version and go back to the current version instead.

Yes I'm running 2505 version, two PCs here with the same version having the same problem.

That would make sense - I first saw the error today with the Beta from April 8th, before the update today.

Version mismatch was the error I've seen in event log

I just checked and Javascript is marked "true" in Firefox.

Instructions to check to see if Javascript is true in Edge. (which it should be.) Be extremely careful and follow instructions diligently.
