On Screen Keyboard stuck in "minimal" mode

I have this issue on several devices of mine. I think it was a bug in Versions before 23h2, that the on screen keyboard got stuck in minimal mode and there was no way to unstuck it to default mode. Somehow it resolved itself on some of my PCs, but not all of them, even all of them are on 23h2.

Normally it should look like this:

But on the "stuck in minimal" problem it always looks like this:

Changing the size doesnt help, it just is bugged and wont get unstuck into wider version. Switching to traditional would switch to the normal size, but then automatically attach to lower screen. If you now press the detach button on the right top, it would switch into the buggy minimal state even you choose traditional before.

I also dont have the button on the right corner on the PCs where it is working, as if I had still the old buggy version from before 22h2 on the one PC, even it is 23h2. Both have the same version though of tabtip.exe 10.0.22621.3672

Anyone know how to solve the issue?

Maybe try “turning it off then turning it back on again” as they say?

@antspants That doesnt help anything for this issue. It would just open the traditional old osk.exe process. I want to use tabtip.exe. but working.

I think on the PC where it is broken, I updated to 23h2 through iso file and opening setup, instead of through Windows Update. And the other PCs where it is working, I updated through Windows update to 23h2.

Well I was just playing with the keyboard settings for the one you're using and there doesn't seem to be any option to show it how you posted the screenshot above (as you would of discovered) I don't know why it would look the way you want it to on other PC's, do they all have the same updates?
Nor do I see any options on the net after reading countless pages.
Perhaps Microsoft has decided that compact view is what we want, via a resent update.

No. This is a bug. It exists since 22h2 or so and should have been fixed in 23h2. But obviously Windows 11 is unusable and MS is incompetent.

Normally the button on the right top should just detach from dock to bottom to undock BUT keep the option you selected, normal view, treditional, or minimal. But here, it is bugged, that it always switches to minimal when you click the detouch button.

On another PC I had this issue a year ago too, but it resolved itself the moment I went into on screen keyboard options and changed the keyboard size slider and the moment I did, it got unstuck from bugged minimal. Here it doesnt work (again).

It should look like this if working in traditional mode and undocked:

But on the broken state it behaves like this which is not the normal working state

This works for me, not sure why it doesn't for you. Nor does it snap to any screen position. turning snap on or off made no difference, in fact if I click on any of my six monitors, the keyboard moves to it.

Have you run SFC or any DISM's?

And it doesn't have that button on the right. Not in any mode.

What I find strange, is that depending on what monitor I move it to, the options for the keyboard layout changes. I moved it to a newer more recent purchase and was given different size options.

Buggy as you say or temperamental to monitor types.

Yes. The option for "split" is also missing for the PC where it is working, also the button on the right to dock is missing where it is working. And when you press the undock button it would always switch to Small, instead of keeping the option for what size you set, traditional in this case. This is obviously a bug.

Both PCs use 1080p and DPI scale of 100%.

23h2, all the same, 22631.3737. tabtip.exe is also same version. sfc /scannow doesnt find any issues.

Yeah, just the usual Windows 11 insanity I guess. Bugs like these exist since the release of Windows 11 and still are not fixed. Dont really want to reinstall. I just had upgraded to 23h2 last week or so through the procedure above, like I said, via ISO mount and setup. The upate to 23h2 was not presented through Windows Update.
