My car radio supports Sirius radio, but the free trial ran out about a month after I got the car - Bought a used 2017 Fusion this year.

Anyway, I was thinking of getting a Sirius subscription and saw I could get 12 months @ $5.99, but after that, good lord... $16.99 a month!!!

I'll stick to public radio, especially since the only time I listen to a radio is in my car.

I don't mind paying since Erin loves it and I get to listen to my teams on it when they play.

Our experience is that if you get close to expiry without renewing, they start coming back with lower and lower prices. It’s a game. Patience.

Yeah, that $16.99 adds up quickly! I'll just listen to one of the 14,000 songs I own!

I have Sirius in my 2017 Ram pickup. I wish they would do away with the DJs. I'm paying for it and I don't want DJs or the occasional channel line up suggestions. To me they are ads. In my 2005 Explorer I use Spotify through my cell phone. My new radio has the Spotify app and works circles around the old JVC unit it replaced.

Same here :)

That's about one third of my CD collection. Also have a vinyl collection as well.

Anyway, I started ripping my CD's to my Plex server so I can access them through my phone and eventually through the car with Android Auto

When mine comes up for renewal (less than a month now actually), I call and tell them if you'll renew for the $5 a month I am paying now, I'll renew, otherwise cancel. The fist year they wouldn't do it and I cancelled. Within a month they sent me an offer to come back...at $5 a month.

Every year since then they have renewed at $5 a month for the year, full package. They will tell you they can't do it, or offer a lesser package, etc. I just keep saying "you don't understand, if you can't renew for $5 a month, I want to cancel when my year is up". Last time she went straight to it. It's like $71 a year when they add the U.S. Music Royalty Fee. Just don't forget when it's due to renew again, they always send reminders though

Yeah, but there's no guarantee I'll get that deal. I also don't want to get into something I may like only to have to dump it cause I didn't want to pay the regular fees to begin with.

It's also why I never fall for those "free for the first x amount of months" deals; especially if you know you're not willing to pay whatever asking fee there is. Next thing you know there's a charge on your credit card that you've been "meaning to cancel" but never did!!!

If you are actually willing to cancel, I can see no harm. When I was driving company vans (Nissan NV200), I'd call and get a 3 month free trial. I changed vans fairly often when new guys came on, so I did it for 4 or 5 vans. Every couple of days I get an email to re-up one of the vans, always at $5 a month. I also mention that if the person on the phone says she/he doesn't see $5 a month available.

And honestly, it's not about a bluff...I will actually cancel. I only listen to it a couple of times a month, but for $5 a month, it's worth it for me. What I like is finding new songs/groups I was unaware of. That's where I first found out about Volbeat for instance. Between my music on USB, and SXM, I've only listened to local radio a few times when working on my car and no SXM signal. There aren't even enough good stations near me to fill 6 presets for FM

The harm is buying into something I know I'm not willing to pay full price for. Sure I could cancel the subscription, but it may not be so easy if you enjoy the service. Now the choice is paying triple the fees, or dumping it because you can't afford the service. I'm not putting myself in that boat.

It's like test driving a car - I don't test drive a car unless I know I'm buying, And I don't test drive something I know I can't afford.

And again, there are no guarantees I'll get the same deal/offer as you. I could, or I could end up supplementing your discounts by paying full price where others are paying far less. Happens all the time; remember.... there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

OK, but I am saying, they will always give you the lower deal. It literally costs them nothing to enable the signal to your car. It's already being sent, they just enable and allow you to receive it. As it is you are depriving yourself with the worry you will have to deprive yourself later

Yes.. I hate the radio stations in my area.. commercials and talk.. sucks. Sirius = Great music and minimal talk.. plus.. Erin loves it..
