Out of curiosity, what is the fastest Internet speed you can get in your area?

Testing is out for 10Gbps (1Gbps is the norm) For businesses 1 Tbps is typical - but That's bonkers for domestic users !!!! to say nothing of the price.

Note also because there are quite a few Datacentres here with cheap abundant unlimited Geothermal and hydro electric plus cheap energy price for these places -- fixed guarantee for at least 20 years some connections have to be in the > 10 Tbps.

Cheers

That seems a decent norm these days -- mind you I'd expect the USA in the urban areas at least to be up to the top -- you can't expect that though in the middle of a desert etc. !!!

Wow… I would grab that in a heartbeat regardless of the cost.
I know, speeds are often only as fast as the server will allow. But downloading a 5GB file in a matter of a few seconds would be awesome.

I’m drooling 🤤

I get 1Gbps, so I am grateful for that.
Right. I always found it annoying that internet providers try to sell people the highest/fastest speed service when most of the time as you said our speeds are regulated by the speeds of whatever server it is we are connected to. And for the most part those servers arent anywhere near the fastest speeds available. Outdated servers are everywhere. Its like remember when 4K became a thing and if you went to Best Buy for a TV they would try to sell it to you cause its the latest and greatest right..lol. Well most people didnt understand that barely any movies/shows were filmed or processed in 4K so that aspect was virtually useless. And most cable broadcasts were only done in 480p..at best people were getting 720p and movies just started in 1080p. But people bought into it cause they didnt know any better.

I dumped Comcast in January of last year when we finally got AT&T Fiber in the neighborhood. At the time I was getting the Comcast top speed of 1200/40(1450/45) for like $113 a month. AT&T Fiber was only $110 for 2g/2g service. Seemed like a no brainer to me. But I had to upgrade my 1g switches to the higher bandwidth to all my devices. 2.5g switches aren't near a cheap as 1g switches. I could have gone with the 5g/5g service but really don't see a need for all that bandwidth.
There have been discussions that AT&T will up the cost to $130 for 2g/2g service. So far I haven't see any increase yet. If that actually happens I'll probably drop down to 1g/1g fiber service.
I also have Verizon Home wireless as a backup for only $25 a month. (300/25?)

Hello!
Here where I live, in a raw and harsh countryside, I only have access to mobile broadband with unlimited traffic.
I reach around 40 Megas during the day and 60 Megas at night.
For me it is an absolute luxury, as until a few years ago I was limited to a net consumption ceiling of just 15 gigs of traffic, which was an absolute nightmare.
I paid around 40 dollars included in a package with satellite TV and a landline telephone (which never left the box) but which allowed me access to unlimited internet traffic.
It's expensive, I know...but it's the price of living in a rural area ;-)!

Most of the UK full fibre is limited to 900 Mbps from the main ISPs. There are few sevices from niche ISPs that can offer higher rates.

In my area, I'm stuck with one [cable] provider, tho across the street they have multiple choices of vendor - ATT, Verizon, etc.
My ISP has gigabit service but are installing network upgrades for symmetrical service - which one of their network engineers told me I should wait for. It ain't cheap, but I have no other choice except satellite or 5G service.. neither of which meet current service levels.
I have "Ultra" - which is 600Mb down + 22 Mb up.
Gigabit is well (duh) 1Gb down, 35Mb up..

Last Speedtest -> 547 Mbps down, 22 Mbps up.
I can wait for gigabit.

I'm on a 1gbps download speed, but my ISP also offers a 2gbps option. However, they offer an upgraded router with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports to achieve those speeds. Your PC also has to have 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports to meet those speeds.

I've found to my peril that if you turn on Dynamic QoS or Access Control the routers processor can't maintain 1gbps and drops to 600 odd.

The fastest option i have available to my house is cable based broadband, we don't have any fiber options yet.

The fastest package that I "could" get is 1200Mbps down and 50 up. The package i am on, and totally happy with is 600Mbps/50Mbps. I pay $55.00. I work from home, have a kid that does school from home, all of our TV is streaming, and my son and I are both PC and console gamers. Never had any issues at 600Mbps.

I get emails from my ISP indicating I can upgrade to 2Gbps up and down, but I'm not sure how much more that would be. For what I do workwise, I don't need it. I don't seriously game online, so there's no need for it on that end, either.

2 Gig now, I think here in Central Alabama (Pell City, Alabama). We have Brightspeed Fiber. On the other hand, my household did not need the 2 Gig. So we settled with 500 Mbps which is suitable.

I can get with Comcast up to 1.2gbps, with 2.5gig ethernet adapter with overprovision hit around 1.4gbps and 40 or so upload

Currently on 1gig speed though
I'm on Comcast cable.

I was on the 1200/200 plan. (I ended up needing to rent one of their "gateways" to get that. )They silently upgraded me to 2000/300. (Speedtest shows 2300/360.)

I guess they're trying to dissuade people from switching to (Frontier) fiber.
