I'm guessing that a Bottle shop is the same thing we call a package store. At the time the package stores had to close at 10 PM and the bars stayed open til 2 AM. My state also use to have what called Blue Laws. One of them was that on Sundays all take out had to be draft beer in waxed cardboard containers only.

That’s right, it was the same here. You’d be nursing a box of 12 bottles of beer until closing time. There were as many boxes of beer as there were patrons lol. Some boxes made it to the taxi’s, some were splattered on the ground in broken glass and frothy spillage. The occasional patron lying next to it.

I got nailed by a RCMP officer up near Kamloops BC in 2000 for doing 130 in a Ford Windstar, he was a nice bloke to talk & joke with, we had a bit of a banter going on while he checked my license out.
He ended up letting me go with a "Bluey".
