Solved PowerShell upgrade?


Hi Alexey,
using Terminal preview, you can select which shell will start first and what appears on the menu itself.
At this point, one should not remove the 'old' version of powershell ps.exe as sfc will put it back.
As you can see from the screenshot, I only have one powershell listed (7.3) on the pull-down menu.

Hi @OAT , (after my laptop's replacement PCI Gen 4 M.2 2280 NVMe, performed a clean install of W11) and after having created a full backup was playing around, frankly by sheer stroke of luck opened and delated JSON file's contents) this happened o_O. Learning slowly at this age with a very demanding profession. I hope you agree that is good enough. Now need to learn to install VMware....:confused:

Thanks again @OAT . You have been of extreme help. I agree no wonder I adore W11 forums, full of experts to assist an old doc....;-)

I would bother you once I create a full backup, regards to installing VMWare...….Hyer-Vs, WMP, path etc. and which apps to install etc. are confusing on W11 Pro.

Hello again @OAT ,

Are you available, I got some time before starting work. Require your expertise to install VMWare? Created a full backup.

Queries:

1. Am now on W11 Pro, do I need to make any changes in registry, Group policy? Do I need to turn ON or OFF W11's Hyper-V?
2. Which version of VMWare should I install...care to post a link.
3. Should WMP be checked?
4. Do realize am using a Dell wireless KB and mouse, not the laptop's.
5. And have only 1 M2. NVME SSD, since Dell is out of stock for the slot 2 M.2 22230 SSD.

Hoping to hear back.

For VMWare, you probably want VMWare Workstation Player as this is the free version for non-commercial use.

Since you have 11 Pro, have you considered using Hyper-V? It's already included in the OS and is one of the advantages to having the Pro versioin.

Thanks for your input @OAT , probably is occupied. I got a coffee break a few questions:

1. Is this download link correct..... https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-player.html
2. Virtualization is enabled in BIOS.
3. Hyper-V and it's sub components are not enabled in Windows features.....they should be checked Correct?
4. During install should WHP be unchecked?
5. Would my Dell wireless KB mouse work or do I need to install VMWare drivers for it?

Install from the link.
During the installation, the installer will tell you if any of the services that are not running are needed.
For item 5, your devices are supported. Again if the vm-tools are needed, you will be prompted.
But you are jumping ahead.

What you are installing is a player for VMs.
You will need to point to an .iso file since you do not have a virtual OS set up yet.

@OAT , I simply want to run, test different versions of Windows and Linux distros to learn and experiment. Do I need VMware player?

How can I download a Virtual machine or does W11 Pro has a built in?
