Pros and cons of upgrading to Win 11

Windows 11 Pro version 22H2 build 22621.3155
I am thinking about upgrading to win 11 from win 10 Pro. The one thing I read is that you have to sign into a MS account to use Win 11, which I don't like. Are the other pros and cons to upgrading to Win 11?

There are ways to install Win11 using a local account, there are guides on these forums, or you can install with an MS account first then create and use a local account.
Instead of asking for pros and cons from other users, which can/ might be very subjective, why not image your current system then install Win11 and try it out to see how any pros or cons affect you and your use case.
If you don't like it you can roll back within 10 days, by default, although you can extend this period, or just restore your Win10 image to get back to before you installed Win11.
Do make a seperate backup of any personal data and maybe hardware drivers before doing anything else.

You can bypass the MS account requirement. Just enter fake@gmail.com, enter anything you like as password and it will go "oops" and then you can use local account.

Other pros and cons are just personal preference. Frankly, apart from different gui, not a lot of difference.

In the end W11 is being developed, W10 is not.

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
If you had a backup from before this problem occurred, you wouldn't be reading this. :-)

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.


The trick here is which ISO you use, when you do an In-Place Upgrade.
If you're ON Win 10 and you do an In-Place Upgrade using a Windows 11 ISO... when it's finished, you'll be ON Windows 11.

Yes. Both. Whether it appeals to you or not, will determine if it's a pro or a con. An obvious pro would be a longer supported timeframe.

I would rather not do a complete reinstall since I just installed everything on my new system that I built. Windows upgrade gave me a choice to upgrade to Windows 11 would there be an issue doing it that way?

when you get to the sign in screen, just enter a banned email address: no@thankyou.com and then enter any password. . . lol then it'll bypass and let you do a local account.

There's a small chance that the upgrade won't proceed.

Even if it doesn't work, the existing Windows 10 installation shouldn't be damaged.

However, if you don't have a means of imaging your current Windows, this would be a good time to acquire it. (Imaging software, backup drive.)

Use Rufus to make bootable usb ( Windows 11 install Media).
Check on the option to setup without internet while making the usb.
