That is in part why there have been a lot more Kings than Queens.

The succession law has now been changed (only a few years ago actually), to reflect modern equality expectations, and now the crown passes to 1st child despite gender.

However it still bars a Catholic from the throne --- where's religious tolerance there -- It's (OK hideously unlikely) but somebody from the Taliban could become HMK or HMQ -- OK unlikely given that a Muslim would have problems being head of C.Of E of course but it's theoretical -- say if William converted to Islam for example !!!!!! again 99999999% B/S but I'm just going by English Common Law. - The Royal Family are excluded from "Discrimination Laws etc -- so the religious discrimination thing couldn't be tested in Court. In any case I'm not sure what the difference really is between "High Angican C of E" and Catholics now the latter have dropped Latin. Apart from Women clergy theological dogma is pretty much the same.

I did though enjoy that "Ruritanian spectacle" of those old stuffies in the Privy Council doing their gig this morning -- but I always thought a "Privy" was something else !!!!! so I really wondered what "public bogs" had to do with it all.

Anyway HMQ --R.I.P -- you didn't have to be British to like and admire her. Not sure about "The Newbie" though.

Just like the rainbows over the Palace and Windsor Castle when the Queen died, another coincidence will unveil itself on Monday when she is interred. Jupiter, the King of the planets, will be at its closest to Earth. The last time this rare celestial alignment happened was at the funeral of King George VI.

I won't bore you with the transubstantiation debate, but I think you'll find that the head of the Roman Catholic church is the Pope, while the head of the Church of England is the King/Queen of England. That might be why it would be difficult for the King to be a Catholic. (If we accept the current situation of course.)
It's all down to that original great Brexiteer, Henry VIII, who didn't want European chaps running his country.
