The old 486s could really be overclocked. 25MHz to 33MHz or 40MHz easily. Just a jumper.

I wasn't aware 6 years olds had 2 million to spend. If adults are enjoying that nonsense, there's no hope for the future of mankind.

The only CPU I have that has cores disabled is the AMD Phenom II X4 960T. It is a Zosma 4-core CPU which is a Thuban 6-core CPU with 2 cores disabled. After I got the 960T I tried enabling the disabled cores. Unfortunately, the computer crashed when I did that.

Manufactures don't purposely make a lot of different CPU models. With automated testing they bin the CPUs to produce the different models. Naturally some aren't even good enough for that but they try to keep that to a minimum to maximize the yield and profits.

Bad choice of words. Binning something also means throwing it away. Well it does in the UK, not sure about backwards Merca. "Y'all be throwing that in the trayash!"

Admission : don't understand much of the technical/electronic discussions here, suffice it to say shortly after I recently bought my first Ryzen powered device, I started coming across articles about Ryzen 9 high temperatures/overheating if tinkered with (again, I didn't understand the technical/electronic descriptions associated with the alleged phenomena).

All CPUs get hotter if overclocked without care. Faster frequency means charging and discharging the caps inside it more often, more current needed so more heat. You can compensate by lowering the voltage, but then it makes mistakes. Often you have to raise the voltage so it charges fast enough. Best left well alone. GPUs can be overclocked easily with software, but again they screw up.

My Ryzen 9 3900XT sits at 85C in a 25C room when flat out (which it is 24/7) without overclocking. And that's with a 6 inch cubed cooler with twin fans. Mind you the box the CPU came in said "warning: water cooling must be used".

That reminds me, I came across a label on something the other day saying "warning: made in china" Something had rubbed off it, it should have said "warning: something" then "made in china" on the next line. But it still made sense.

I'm going to try out a cheap chinese drone at a nudist resort in a few days, that will be interesting, I've never flown one. Hey! What are you assuming? I just happen to be going there and the owner has loads of gliders and stuff.

Eating used food is a sign of inferiority. Cats can't process actual food, it has to be done for them by their prey.

And when I had cats and parrots, the parrots terrorised the cats. Cats can't handle things getting hold of their tail, in fact they don't understand their own tails at all. One of them used to think it was hiding, but the tail was left out across the hall. It didn't even think to change to another hiding place after I stood on it (accidentally).

That isn't smart, needing recycled food. My parrots and myself eat real food, not stuff which an animal has already digested. I don't want it second hand.

And my cats never ate my parrots, my parrots chased them round the floor and scared them silly. The cats don't remember they have a tail lying behind them and it gets bitten!

And on the subject of smart, "cought", "list"?

Well two of may cats ate 2 parrots, broke in the cage too.

I think mine were particularly stupid. They did their business next to the litter tray, then tried to dig the carpet to bury it.
